Metro Volunteers serve in an unpaid, at-will capacity for this Department; however, they will receive mileage reimbursement for mileage incurred traveling to and from area assignments.

Metro Volunteers do not have police power. They volunteer in different bureaus of the Department to perform, on a part-time basis, non-confrontational support services. Metro Volunteers staff visitor counters and information booths; answer general phone and in-person inquiries; assist in crowd control; help officers to set up and maintain the perimeters of auto accident scenes; conduct handicap parking enforcement; interact with visitors and residents as goodwill ambassadors; and deliver safety guidance in public schools.

Metro Volunteers are able to determine their work schedules and the areas of the Department they are interested in working. All Volunteers will be required to work at least eight (8) hours per month.

Minimum Qualifications/Position-Specific Conditions

Training, Education and Experience

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident without conditions on status.
  • Have access to transportation to commute between home and work.

  • An interest and desire to assist the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in the furtherance of it's vision, mission, goals and values.

Conditions of Volunteering
In addition to the General Conditions of Employment, found here,the following specific conditions of employment and physical conditions apply to this position.

  • Personal Appearance: While on duty, and/or representing the Department, uniformed or otherwise, all Department employees will be neat and clean in their appearance in public. Employees are prohibited from attaching, affixing, or displaying objects, articles or jewelry on or through the nose, tongue, eyebrow or other exposed body part, except the ears for females, while on duty. Employees are prohibited from stretching or "gauging" their earlobes. All jewelry implants will not be exposed or visible while on duty. Tattoos or branding will not be exposed or visible while on duty and/or representing the Department. Such markings must be covered by clothing, and may not be covered by make-up or bandages. Tattoos or branding anywhere on the body that promote racism/discrimination, indecency, extremist or supremacist philosophies, lawlessness, violence, or contain sexually explicit material are prohibited.
  • Maintain access to transportation to commute to and from work.
  • Must not carry weapons when volunteering.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age to be eligible for assignment to the Handicap Parking Enforcement Program.
  • Work on weekends, holidays, and/or evening hours, if performing support services for special units or at public events.
  • Work a minimum of 8 hours per month.
  • Wear a uniform and carry equipment, when necessary.

Application Screening (Pass/Fail)
Applications will be reviewed to determine those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications. These qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the remainder of the testing process set forth below. Applicants will be notified of the results of the screening process via email. If you have not received your notification by 5:00 pm PST on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, it is your responsibility to confirm your eligibility to test for this position by contacting the OHR representative listed below in the Inquiries Section.

  • The LVMPD reserves the right to modify the selection processes and test instruments in accordance with accepted legal, ethical, and professional standards.

Those candidates who are successful in the selection process and become Metro Volunteers will be given training both in general LVMPD operations, as well as in area- or program-specific details.

Additional Selection Processes
