Position Summary:

The Customer Category Manager on the Insights and Analytics team will be responsible for unearthing category insights that will inspire strategic solutions for Retail Customer partners and for High Liner Foods. Leveraging hindsight (performance metrics, ROI analysis, etc), insight (consumer-led data, market trends), and foresight (macro trends, category performance and trajectories, etc), the Customer Category Manager will build concise stories with actionable business recommendations with the goal of unlocking opportunities across our portfolio for our customer partners. The incumbent will help guide cross-functional partners within the organization to make business decisions based on the customer’s strategic priorities; they will be able to build relationships that uncover these customer priorities. The Customer Category Manager will ensure that all product, trade and innovation solutions are customer relevant and driven by data. The scope of this role will be primarily support specific US RETAIL partners but may extend to Canadian Retail partners as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Retail Category Management:

  • Expertise in traditional Retail Category Management principles and application
  • Leverage multiple data sources to tell a holistic story linking consumer and retail customer insights, market trends and portfolio solutions for our Retail customer partners
  • Ability to leverage custom and syndicated sources to develop foresight on growth trends for the Retail landscape and Seafood industry
  • Play an integral part of annual strategic planning, proving a point of view on category and company growth and share targets to feed into future business planning and marketing direction
  • Advanced presentation skills, confident presenting insights and recommendations to Retail customers across North America
  • The expert on Retail consumer / customer / category performance and provide timely updates to marketing / sales / product development
  • Proficient in key Retail data tools and applications including IRI, Nielsen, 85.14, Numerator, Dunnhumby, LDIA and others (as necessary)
  • Present at key Retail department meetings on business results and trends
  • Provide unbiased vendor evaluation and ongoing relationship management
  • Develop and maintain internal topline reporting, quarterly business reviews, ELT materials, and other ad-hoc reporting and analysis for internal Retail and leadership team purposes

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • At least 3 – 5 years of experience in a category management function
  • Experience in traditional CPG Category Management principles and application
  • High level analytical capability
  • Proficiency in using syndicated data and panel metrics (IRI, Nielsen, etc)
  • Strong decision-making capability
  • Track record of successfully implemented recommended strategies at the customer level
  • Experience presenting and collaborating with internal partners and external customers
  • Ability to assimilate and interpret data from multiple disparate data sources into concise action-oriented recommendations
  • Experience communicating complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels
  • Experience in managing vendor/customer relationships
  • Expert Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel

Preferred:

  • Experience in the Retail CPG industry
  • Experience in storytelling
  • Development and application of analytics, principles, theories and concepts (ie pricing elasticity models)
