The Associate Editor plans and carries out timely and efficient development of pedagogically-sound instructional content, from signing until final publication stage. Engage in market research to develop content strategy. Direct authors and content providers in delivering customer-centered and student-focused content that is innovative, appeals to a diverse audience, and has discernible competitive advantage and a strong market identity that is consistent with the vision and quality of the brand. Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met within budget and by target pub/live dates. Participate in market development efforts and support internal and external marketing and sales initiatives.


Key responsibilities:

Project conceptualization: Assist with market research and discovery to identify opportunities for growth and to discern student and instructor needs. Help ground editorial plans in data and assist in using market knowledge to design innovative content that shows competitive advantage, forwards student engagement and learning outcomes, and leverages diverse, inclusive, and culturally responsive pedagogy.

Project management: Schedule and coordinate activities-including discovery and project planning, content delivery and editing, testing and market development-for medium-scale projects, to achieve target pub/live dates. Collaborate with colleagues during print and media production phases following content delivery. Control expenses by adhering to approved plant and travel budgets and utilizing efficient and cost-effective processes.

Content Development and Product Testing: Hire and oversee content providers and direct authors, assuring that content is developed to a high standard. Test draft or prototyped content with customers via surveys, demos, or interviews, analyze feedback, and direct necessary revisions. Oversee content audits to ensure content represents high standards of diversity and inclusion.

Marketing and sales support: Participate in market development efforts and provide content information and consultation to support internal and external marketing and sales efforts. Support marketing and sales with occasional travel to academic conferences and college campuses to meet with authors and customers to help close business and to gather market feedback.

Support: Carry out select project management, market research, editorial, or other tasks for projects managed by another editor.


Required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or higher required

2+ years' editorial or related professional experience

Project Management - Demonstrated ability in planning, implementing, monitoring, and meeting deadlines for multiple projects simultaneously

Experience with successful scheduling, resource allocation, and quality assurance

Analytical Thinking - Must be able to analyze information from a diverse array of sources in order to understand issues, identify opportunities, anticipate outcomes, and support sound decision making

Effective Communication - Must demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills in the English language with a variety of stakeholders

Preferred qualifications:

Experience in college-level educational publishing

Experience with teaching [STEM/Humanities] or instructional design

Experience in customer outreach or customer service


Physical requirements:

Position requires concentrated screen time for long periods as well as multi-tasking; may involve working in an open-office environment. Travel is required <5% of the time.


Annual salary:
$47,000 - $48,000


The position is eligible for remote employment, excluding the following locations: Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wyoming.
