Instruct and train high school students in introductory culinary arts. Included in instruction are safety and sanitation, cooking and baking methods and techniques, advanced cooking and guest relations, identification of tools and ingredients, nutrition, menu development, food service math. Integrated throughout are essential employability skills for entry-level culinary positions.

Typical Duties:

  • Develop and implement lessons to teach skills required for students to master competencies in culinary arts with integration of English language arts, mathematics and critical thinking skill development
  • Provide group and individual instruction utilizing effective teaching strategies, aids and equipment
  • Evaluate students’ skills and career readiness competencies, and maintain accurate student records
  • Manage classroom in a positive manner conducive to learning and classroom “ownership”
  • Work effectively as part of a team both within the CTE Department as well as schoolwide
  • Collaborate in planning process for modifications in curriculum, development of outreach activities and real life
  • Participate actively in subject matter advisory committee and community outreach
  • Accurately report student attendance in a timely manner

Job Requirements:

  • Must possess or qualify for a Oregon Career Tech Education Credentials.
  • Experience and knowledge in culinary arts, including cooking and baking techniques, nutrition, menu development, food service math, plating and presentation, international cuisine, and guest service
  • Knowledge of industry-standard safety and sanitation practices in a restaurant or food production facility; must obtain
  • Skilled in verbal and written communications
  • Knowledge and application of a variety of teaching strategies to engage all learning modalities

Development

  • Ability to write lesson plans for individual and group instruction
  • Ability to use diverse teaching strategies to meet students’ learning styles, abilities, interest, and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member
  • Ability to engage students in team building and student recruitment activities
