Launching in February 2023, the XFL is a fan-first, fast-paced global professional football league featuring innovative rules and an enhanced 360-view game experience. Led by owners Dany Garcia, Dwayne Johnson, and Gerry Cardinale's RedBird Capital Partners, the XFL will bring entertainment to world-class football with the goal of advancing the game and expanding player opportunities.


About the Position

The XFL is seeking a Social Media Manager to serve as the go-to for the Houston Roughnecks team's social media posts. The manager is responsible for creating and programming social media content for the Houston Roughnecks followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat and more. In addition, they will create and post content, generate analytics and reporting, corporate partner initiatives, and event coverage. This person will represent the team and be the voice of the brand across all channels, as well as devise, coordinate and execute multi-platform strategies for internal and external campaigns. This position will have a dual reporting relationship to the Director, Marketing & Content [XFL Team].


What you will do

  • Manage the team's day-to-day social media content and activities.
  • Maintain brand presence on existing social media networks, including content and visual updates as needed.
  • Provide real-time platform coverage during live games and events, including news posts, video clips, GIFs and more.
  • Directly engage with other XFL team accounts, players, media members, influencers, partners and more via social media platforms, fostering engagement and conversation.
  • Work with the League to develop effective social campaigns for internal and third-party initiatives, including sponsored executions.
  • Develop original social-based editorial features such as themed Instagram Stories, Twitter Moments, Facebook Watch episodic content, slideshows, etc.
  • Support and proactively ideate for new emerging features on existing platforms.
  • Interface and liaise with platform partners.
  • Perform content moderation duties for fan-submitted content, ensuring that the content is meeting XFL standards as shown in arena or on-air.
  • Monitor activity and social chatter for potential news leads for editorial team.
  • Keep current with XFL news, teams, rosters, fan bases, brands and products.
  • Stay up to date on daily, weekly, and monthly social media needs of sponsorship, community relations, and youth programs activations
  • Closely monitor players’ social media accounts; when possible, work with the players to create unique, engaging content
  • Remain informed and familiar with social/digital content trends.
  • Track analytics and use data to make informed strategy suggestions.
  • Communicate with league social team to coordinate content plans and establish a style guide/tone.

What you will bring:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in social media editing and channel management.
  • Extraordinary problem solving and project management capabilities.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented with exceptional time management and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Must be able to work non-traditional schedule, including nights and weekends during XFL games and live TV programming.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of existing and emerging social platforms, and the ability to use and gain insights from analytics tools to constantly measure and elevate the teams’ social and overall digital efforts.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of social networking platform.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Impeccable grammar and diction required.
  • Passion for emerging media trends and technology, including social platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of football (formations, X’s and O’s, terminology, history, etc.)
  • Passion for pop culture.
  • Ability to make reasoned judgments in a timely fashion within a very subjective medium
  • Expertise in paid social media campaigns and execution
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills.


Additional Details

  • Work location: The location of this role must be in the Houston market where the team is located.
  • Primarily works in an office and/or an office environment but may include attending select games and events in XFL team markets.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel
  • Travel Required to XFL team Markets
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
