A Typical Day

The Site Engineering Manager is responsible for coordinating, implementing and executing the strategic objectives within areas of responsibility for Hilmar Cheese Company and Hilmar Ingredients. Responsibilities include both short and long-range capital plan management and executing day-to-day operations within respective areas in Engineering Department.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage three-year capital investment plan at respective site consistent with Company investment portfolios and strategic plan with input from Engineering Executive Leadership and Site Director
  • Manage site engineering Centers of Excellence staff to execute on site capital investment plan and Company’s strategic objectives.
  • Work with Director of Operations and Director of Asset & Project Management and engineering support managers to prioritize engineering resources
  • Support site manufacturing staff using engineering resources to address and resolve technical issues.
  • Work cross-functionally and influence various teams such as Engineering, Construction, Operations, Reliability, Maintenance, Safety, Quality, and IT and provide feedback to improve deployment efficiency and understand customer needs and meet project objectives.
  • Assess and communicate project status, escalations on potential risks and delays across multiple teams.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's in Engineering, Project Management, Construction, or related field plus 7 years related experience OR Master’s degree plus 3 years related experience, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing multiple complex capital projects.
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully working with teams and driving projects to completion.
  • Demonstrate progression through multiple roles in Engineering and/or Manufacturing environments.
  • Experience building and leading multi-functional engineering and technical teams.
  • Experience in engineering design and project management with respect to a manufacturing facility.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, along with problem solving and conflict management skills.
  • Proficient in CAD tools and Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proven leadership and teambuilding skills.

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Bachelor's in Engineering, Project Management, Construction or related field science plus 10 years related experience OR Master's degree plus 5 years related experience.
  • Experience in Vertical Start-Up (VSU) and Commission, Qualification, Validation (CQV) criteria development and implementation.
  • Strategic knowledge in respective area of production operations, managing for quality, yield, and cost.
  • Lean Six Sigma – Green Belt certification, or higher.

Physical Demands

The role has periods of time when the work environment is sedentary and conducted in an office environment balanced with frequent occasions that require prolonged walking or standing, lifting/ carrying/handling moderate weight objects on a regular basis. Is required to wear PPE and have a regular presence in manufacturing and warehouse environments in both temperature controlled and uncontrolled locations. Must frequently interact with people verbally. Specific details of the essential functions of the position is available in the Job Safety Analysis, made available on request.
