POSITION SUMMARY
Handle complete lifecycle of product development working with various departments; Create product interface and design assembly; Maintain and review product for continuous improvement as needed; Handle other duties as assigned to assist in accomplishing organizational mission.
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Direct and lead product development lifecycle. Lead and participate in brainstorm sessions regarding defining project specifications. Define and manage project schedules, resource planning and key milestone deliverables (including potential scheduling conflicts and delays) and coordinate work activities among internal and external team members. Generate complete mechanical manufacturing packages for suppliers, including Schematics, Gerber's, bill of materials (BOMs), part and system‐level specifications. Define electrical reliability test procedures to validate performance goals, verify compliance with applicable EMC/safety certifications, coordinate testing and compile documentation of results. Design and review manufacturing test fixtures and procedures, review and approve initial production samples, analyze and test field returns to determine root cause of failure and proposing and implementing corrective actions.
  • Create the printed circuit board assembly (PCBA), firmware, control algorithms, user interface (UI), and cloud backends back ends for electro‐mechanical part and assembles designs using a variety of industry related design tools. Products of development include but are not limited to control of electromechanical/pneumatic systems and sensing solutions, local (bed system) networking, cloud interface, app development, HL7 hospital integration, etc. Research and propose possible technology enablers (e.g. sensors, networking protocols, etc.) as well as potential areas for product patent protection.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with various department teams; mechanical team producing prototype electronics to support building of quick mockups to validate feasibility and coordinating fabrication of working prototypes; Clinical and Quality teams to develop and verify the efficiency of devices. Supporting internal/external manufacturing partners to resolve issues during design transfer and transition to mass production. Identifying and acting as main point of contact for potential contract manufacturers as well as other suppliers; observing and evaluating possible manufacturing partners to determine production capabilities and readiness
  • Organize and lead project update presentations and design reviews, prepare visual materials for defining complex engineering concepts (such as screenshots, photos and videos) for team and additional project communication. Contribute to product risk analysis, usability, and verification efforts in pursuit of medical product certifications. Participate in ISO and AAMI standards development.
  • Lead and mentor less experienced team members; share design engineer insights and promote a positive team environment. Accomplish company and organizational mission by contributing to team effort and handling other duties as assigned by superiors assisting in the overall success of the company.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have exceptional EE CAD and firmware development skills for creating robust PCBA part designs and firmware. Cloud and app development capabilities a significant plus.
  • Able to manage complexities and competing priorities. Coordinates information and activities among groups with differing agendas, across multi‐functional areas.
  • Must have proven experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA) and design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA).
  • Understanding of and familiarity with mass production manufacturing processes for consumer products, including Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and industry standard testing processes.
  • Familiarity with other technical disciplines such as mechanical preferred.
  • Experience designing for agency certifications (e.g. ISO, IEC, AAMI, UL, CE, CISPR, FCC, FDA) required. Prior experience with the 60601 family or other FDA related standards a significant plus.
  • Prior experience interfacing with Certification bodies (Intertek, UL, TUV) preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% as needed; both domestically and internationally.
  • Available to work flexible schedule; some evenings, some nights, and some weekends as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Bachelor’s Degree (BS) Engineering required; 10+ years of experience designing PCBA in the medical, consumer, automotive, or aerospace industry required; 2+ years of experience leading product development projects in a team environment required.
