Resident Camp Counselor positions are open at this beautiful 300-acre camp in Oracle, Arizona, just outside of Tucson. On-campus housing is required during summer camp sessions, which includes utilities. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for the direct supervision of a group of children in the resident camp setting.

LOCATION:

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A RESIDENT CAMP COUNSELOR:

• Supervises and provides leadership for an assigned group of children at resident camp.
• Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with YMCA values.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies to ensure the safety and positive experience of all campers.
• Maintains positive relations with parents, children, and other staff. Models relationship-building skills in interactions when appropriate.
• Builds relationships with campers; helps campers connect with one another and the YMCA.
• Handles and resolves camper concerns using strong conflict management skills and informs the
  appropriate staff of unusual situations or unresolved issues.
• Follows and engages in the camp group schedule while ensuring a safe and clean environment for all by following social distancing guidelines and sanitization procedures.
• Cleans and sanitizes areas according to COVID-19 and YMCA standards.
• Consistently applies all YMCA policies and SOPs, including but not limited to COVID-19.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF A RESIDENT CAMP COUNSELOR:

• 18 years old or older
• Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
• Certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire: CPR/AED and First Aid
• Completion of YMCA’s online training within seven (7) days of hire
• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
• Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community
• Previous camp, recreation or related experience is preferred
• Basic knowledge of youth development
