Summary:

Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Leisure Services Director. Responsible for developing new and innovative recreational programs, assisting with special events, and evaluating current programs and events.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Public Information Officer (PIO) to maintain website and communicate information on social media, identifying area trends, conducting various marketing duties for the Leisure Services Department, and conducting community outreach.
  • Assists Community Events with planning, coordinating and executing annual Mayor’s Health & Fitness Challenge.
  • Conducts surveys of program participants to determine the number of benefits received from the class, sport, or activity.
  • Supervises departmental volunteers and projects.
  • Plans, organizes, implements, assists with, and evaluates programs and activities.
  • Oversees promotional programs.
  • Maintains budgets to support programs.
  • Assists in obtaining program funding by seeking grants and sponsors.
  • Evaluates problems or concerns related to all programs and aids in the development of effective recommendations.
  • Coordinates public relations and marketing programs through public speaking appearances at civic clubs and local service groups.
  • Aids local organizations in developing programs to effectively meet the needs of the City and its residents.
  • Completes special projects as assigned by the Assistant Leisure Services Director.
  • Monitors contractual agreements between rental groups and/or independent contractors.
  • Participates in on-call and after-hours duties as assigned. Must be available for overtime and emergency call-outs when necessary.
  • Assists in preparation for, response to, and recovery from, the impacts of a wide variety of disasters or emergency situations and may be temporarily assigned to other duties, locations, and shifts.
  • Meets attendance requirements.
  • Promotes positive customer service environment internally and externally.
  • Performs other job related functions as assigned.

None

Education and/or Experience:
Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in municipal recreation or closely related field is required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Current Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification with the National Recreation and Parks Association is preferred.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Possesses Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Current CPR & AED Certified.
  • Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of the professional principles, methods, and procedures of public leisure/recreational services.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs and ability to learn City- specific enterprise software
  • Knowledge of budget preparation and budget performance measures.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of good public relations.
  • Knowledge of facilities management procedures.
  • Knowledge of the ordinances, policies, and procedures of the City. Knowledge of the organization, function and activities of City government.
  • Ability to effectively work independently or with others and present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to plan, assign, coordinate, and evaluate activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to plan, initiate, and implement long-term programs and short-term programs.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.
  • Ability to create a positive image to the public relative to leisure services programs.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and attend evening and weekend events and meetings.
  • Skill in time management.

Experience:

  • Municipal recreation or closely related: 5 years (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • Florida Driver's License (Required)
