Per Diem Community Bridger for the Northeast Recovery Learning Community

Who are we? NILP is a rapidly growing, human service agency who assists persons with all types of disabilities who wish to live independently in their community throughout Northeast Massachusetts. NILP provides five core services of Advocacy, Peer Counseling, Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, and Transition. NILP believes in consumer control and self direction and provides these services with the knowledge that persons with disabilities are the best determinants of their needs and goals.

Position Overview: Under the supervision of the NERLC Director or Designee, the per-diem Community Bridger provides support and assistance to individuals as they transition from psychiatric units at Tewksbury Hospital, into various community-based living arrangements in the Northeast area of Massachusetts. The per diem Community Bridger familiarizes themselves with all persons served, institutional settings, persons served specific community and the individual's unique interests and needs. In addition, the per diem Community Bridger supports the development of self-determination, self-advocacy skills and other strategies that promote recovery to persons served by teaching and modeling these skills. They serve as a mentor to promote hope, resiliency and empowerment and are willing to share their own recovery story. They provide advocacy, education, support, information and training in recovery tools and techniques to individuals transitioning into the community.

What you will be doing:

• Collaborate with staff at Tewksbury Hospital to identify individuals who would take interest in community bridging and would benefit from this type of support
• Orient individuals receiving community bridging support to mental health resources and services available in their local communities, as well as natural supports (such as libraries, fitness centers, community events, religious organizations, substance use support groups like AA and NA, etc.)
• Research/update information on Social Security, MassHealth, Medicare, Mass Rehab, DMH eligibility, etc.
• Network with local SSA, DMH, BenePlan, MassHealth, etc. and advocate for population served as necessary
• Assist with the collection and reporting of data

Who we are looking for?

• CPS or Recovery Coach preferred. Must have CPS and or Recovery Coach accreditation within one year of hire
• Must have completed, or be willing to complete a peer group facilitation training within the first 12 months of employment
• Must be a peer with lived experience with mental health challenges/addiction recovery and or be a trauma survivor
• Bi-lingual/bi-cultural candidates are highly desirable
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the issues faced by older adults who have been psychiatrically labeled. Must be a peer with lived experience with mental health challenges/addiction recovery and or be a trauma survivor

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per year

Schedule:

• 4 hour shift
• 8 hour shift
• Day shift
• Monday to Friday
• No nights

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Lawrence, MA 01843: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

License/Certification:

• Driver's License (Preferred)
