Position Title: Peer-Academic Mentor

Job Description
The undergraduate student provides a variety of consulting services to students enrolled in first-year writing courses at Clayton State University. The mentor serves as an aid and resource, not an editor. The undergraduate facilitates writing as a process to help cultivate critical thinking while growing a community of writers. The undergraduate student can work up to 19.5 hrs/week, as needed. This is great opportunity for students seeking to develop professionally and enhance their resumes through self-directed projects.

The Peer-Academic Mentor Program won the 2022 Regents’ Momentum Year Award for Excellence in Teaching and Curricular Innovation. Come be a part of our program!

Required Qualifications


Qualifications
  • Must be enrolled as a student at Clayton State University
  • Must have completed ENGL 1101 and ENGL 1102, with at least a B
  • Must have a minimum overall 3.0 GPA
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must be an effective team player
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Must be able to take initiative in collaborative projects
  • Must be comfortable with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Must be over 18 years of age by the time of employment
  • When working remotely, must have reliable access to internet access and technical resources at a remote work location

Application must provide 1) the name of a current or past Clayton State University faculty member who may provide a recommendation, and 2) a cover letter (a maximum one page) explaining your interest and qualifications.
