JOB TITLE: Paraprofessional

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Help teacher prepare and adapt instructional materials and classroom displays

· Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom

· Help with inventory, care, and maintenance

· Help teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports

· Help with inventory and care of all equipment including technology, books, supplies, and classroom materials

· Assist assigned student with disabilities according to their needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning.

· Assist student with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.

· Participate in staff development, training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

· Help manage behavior of student. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.

· Assume responsibility for learning and adapting student’s special educational, medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.

· Work with individual student or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by teacher.

· Help supervise assigned student throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.

· Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of the student

· Maintain confidentiality.

· Maintain reliable and regular attendance.

· Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, principal, or other school personnel supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Applicants MUST have a Paraprofessional License issued by the Illinois State Board of Education.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

· The work year for this position is 180 days.

· Salary is in accordance with the SPA contract.

· Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.

· Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, push, or pull heavy objects or materials.

· Occasionally requires physical exertion to restrain a student based on the CPI model

· Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour
