Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional who is passionate about Sustainability and enjoys both strategic and tactical execution. You will lead the identification of alternative raw material pathways, innovative material cycles and new business models to implement circular economy activities participating to BASF’s transition to net-zero. You will work closely with the BASF business units, procurement network and qualified suppliers, to identify long term opportunities in the realm of circular economy. Your duties will also include sourcing circular feedstocks and negotiating with third party waste management companies.

As a Innovation & Circular Economy Leader (Hybrid) you create chemistry by…

• Successfully engaging across the organization, you will interact with various levels within the Business Unit (e.g., supply chain planners, technology managers, product managers, business managers, business VPs) to identify, evaluate and implement circular economy solutions
• Demonstrating your entrepreneurial initiative, you will identify potential partners and negotiate agreements for the supply of circular feedstocks in alignment with the Business Unit sustainability strategy.
• Leveraging your project management skills, you will engage in identification, selection, and implementation of Circular Economy projects with third-party waste management organizations for several BASF business units.
• Collaborating with internal teams and managing external providers, you will develop business cases and implementation plans for the identified circular economy projects.
• As a subject matter expert, you will understand relevant market trends and impact on supply availability and pricing of circular feedstocks
• A lot of this job has to do with building relationships. The candidate must possess effective interpersonal and communication skills to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Your strong attention to detail will ensure transactions follow BASF Policies and Procedures and legal contract/purchase requirements.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Your formula for success…

• Bachelor's, Master’s Degree or PhD in Sustainability Management, Environmental Science, Polymer Science, Materials Science, and similar fields
• 5+ years of professional experience in leading commercial and/or technology innovation related to circular economy, recycling, packaging, sustainability, or other related fields.
• Strong knowledge of the entire plastics value chain, including polymer manufacturing, plastics conversion, and packaging applications
• Strong knowledge of technologies and process economics for both conventional and advanced recycling of plastics and other materials
• Knowledge of the waste management policies and practices
• Practical working experience and ideally a broad network in the realm of circular economy.
• Experience leading cross functional teams and projects is required
• Ability to influence and understand diverse needs of the stakeholders is required
• Travel up to 30% of the time
