The Industrial/Packaging Engineer is responsible for leading the development and commercialization of innovative packaging initiatives, working closely with global cross-functional partners (i.e. operations, business teams, global packaging team, and functional partners). Properly document and communicate project progress and findings to all key stakeholders. Develop written packaging specifications and complete thorough plant trial reports, including identifying, defining, and solving technical packaging challenges. Develop, test, and commercialize packaging programs across multiple regions. Good understanding of the financial impact of packaging programs and the linkage of packaging to business strategies. Support the Engineering needs of the Operations department including Warehouse and Distribution processes.

POSITION ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING KEY RESULTS

  • Performs key job duties while upholding the Company’s Mission & Guiding Principles.
  • Plan and direct activities concerned with the design and development of protective packaging containers. Analyze engineering drawings and specifications of product to determine physical characteristics of item, special-handling and safety requirements, and type of materials required for container.
  • Provide package development and engineering support for all new products.
  • Optimize package design and pallet patterns, as well as master carton packing configurations.
  • Continually work to remove costs from existing packaging.
  • Consult with Purchasing and Brand departments to determine costs and feasibility of producing proposed packaging.
  • Develop sketches, specifications, samples, and written analysis of proposed packaging to present design for approval.
  • Confer with vendors as needed.
  • Make recommendations on efficient procedures, innovations in packaging materials, and utilization for sealing and fastening devices.
  • Enhance operational efficiency of warehousing and distribution processes.
  • All other duties as assigned in support of the future growth and success of iLoveToCreate.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging Science (Engineering) or Master of Science degree in Packaging Engineering.
  • 2 to 3 years engineering experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this position the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach above/below shoulder level.
  • Occasionally required to lift/carry/push up to 40 lbs, repetitively use both hands/arms/shoulders, forward bending/stooping and light grasping and fine dexterity of both hands. Ability to participate in a team lift for any lifting necessary over 40 lbs.
