Human Services Technician III - The Human Services Technician is responsible for the daily supervision and care of assigned individuals. Duties will focus on training, implementing, and monitoring assigned PSP (Person Support Plan) activities. Training and support will emphasize increasing the client’s independence, and maintaining or improving functional skills. Training and support will be determined by assessments and may include, but not be limited to: training in personal skills essential for privacy and independence, training in adaptive behaviors or independent living skills, training in communication skills, social skills, money management, behavior management, and vocational skills. The Human Services Tech may also provide transportation off the group home to vocational work sites, the community for functional skills training, serves as a member of the IDT, and is responsible for all required documentation. Duties also include related housekeeping tasks such as cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming and preparing meals daily while following each client’s diet requirements. Position works under the general supervision of the Team Leader and will work as relief charge in the absence of the Team Leader. Other duties include making purchases for the homes daily nutritional needs.





Essential Job Functions:
Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned.

Provides active treatment, which is consistently implemented in all relevant settings both formally and informally as the need arises or opportunities present themselves throughout the day. Teaches the acquisition of the behaviors necessary for the client to function with as much self-determination and independence as possible.
Follows each individual’s approved Behavior Therapy Program. Train on and conduct Safe Use of Restraint (SUR) per facility guidelines in order to manage inappropriate behaviors in a safe, approved manner.

Attends and participates at all IDT meetings, behavior review meetings, PNMP Reviews and other meetings as mandated by supervisor. Completes the Personal Outcomes Assessment for assigned clients.

Implements and documents IPP programs, services, and special considerations as prescribed when the activity is scheduled

Monitors, responds to, reports and documents changes in the health and behavior status of individuals to appropriate staff using facility guidelines and procedures to ensure the health and safety of individuals served.
Conducts, responds to, and reports status of injury screenings to home supervisor or designee per established procedures to document injuries and ensure immediate medical attention to individuals served.

Accompanies individuals to on and off campus clinics and hospitals as needed or requested to ensure the availability of familiar staff to provide needed support and services for the individuals.
Transports individuals to/from on/off campus activities, hospital, clinics, etc. per facility transporting procedures to ensure safe and timely arrival to medical appointments and social events.

Attends required training as scheduled by supervisor.

Completes special projects or duty assignments as assigned by supervisor.
This can include provision of direct support services to residents in event of emergency situations such as flood, hurricane, fire or chemical emergency. May also include provision of intervention techniques such as CPR, Heimlich maneuver, basic first aid in emergency or life threatening situations

Cleans residential living areas, dining room, training areas, bathrooms, and patios using facility-approved chemicals to ensure a clean/ sanitary environment.
Uses and secures cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment per facility procedures to provide a safe living environment for individuals served.

Launders clothing using correct temperatures to ensure the availability of clean clothing for individuals.
Washers and dryers are cleaned at the end of each shift to ensure removal of lint and other items that cause damage to the equipment.

Supervises Program Facilitators in the absence of the Team Leader, i.e. serves as Relief Charge to ensure accurate implementation of PDP per established policies and procedures.

Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.




Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of client care techniques; and of treatment, therapy, and developmental programs.

Ability to provide client care; to administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation; Ability to train on and conduct Safe Use of Restraint (SUR). ; implementing Physical Nutritional Management Plans (PNMPs).Skills for effective verbal and written communication.

Ability to attend work regularly as scheduled and on time; to use work time effectively to ensure completion of all job duties.

Ability to work long and irregular work hours as needed.

Ability to dress properly in order to maintain safety and professionalism.

Ability to interact with individuals residing on campus in an emotionally supportive and therapeutic manner.

Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers, individuals served and their family members, supervisors and the public.

Ability to understand and abide by all policies and procedures applicable to job duties or the facility in general.

Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding clients, records, personnel, and other confidential information in compliance with facility, state, and federal policy.



Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Must possess valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it no later than 90 days after hire date. Applicants with an out-of-state driver’s license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure. Eligible driving record required based on HHSC Fleet Management policy.


Initial Selection Criteria:
High School Diploma or GED or previous employment experience.

Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/ Entities.

Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center Employees are subject to Random Drug Testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
