Job Summary:

There will be a team of four Housekeepers who will report to the Camp Manager or alternatively the Camp Assistant. The housekeeper cleans, sanitizes, and maintains the living quarters and common areas of the facility for the overall well-being of its clients, visitors, and co-workers. The Janitors are responsible for cleaning all the common areas such as the recreational room, exercise area, synagogue, bathrooms, dining room, and entry area.

The successful candidate must have excellent customer services skills, a professional demeanor, be detail-orientated, have excellent time management skills, and be a self-starter.

Project Overview:

The work site is in a remote location, so personnel are required to live on site in a soft-sided camp environment during their assigned shifts. Personnel will have an approximate rotation of 3 weeks on and 3 weeks off which may vary depending on scheduling requirements and transportation schedule availability.

The camp facility is constructed on a site in Kodiak and will house up to 116 people. The facility includes 4 single occupancy tents: 56 double occupancy tents, a kitchen tent, dining tent facility, morale welfare and recreational tent facility, separate men’s and women’s bathroom, shower and laundry tent facilities, office tent, security equipment, fencing, utility support, internet, and telephone service. The double occupancy bedrooms are outfitted with military style twin XL bunk beds. The kitchen and dining facilities will provide food service and seating for up to 90 people at a time. Three meals per day will be served. Meal service will be kosher. Camp staff will clean the common areas each day. The dining room will be cleaned following each meal service. On check-in, camp residents will be provided clean linens and towels, and then weekly thereafter. Bedrooms will be cleaned each week or when a camp guest checks out of the camp. The camp facility will operate for approximately 74 calendar days with the potential for a brief extension.

Pay Range:

$15-18/hourly


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Wear the appropriate PPE when performing cleaning tasks.
  • Performs all janitorial and housekeeping duties in the living facility and its surrounding environment.
  • Changes bedding in all occupied rooms weekly or as needed.
  • Inventories, organizes, rotates and orders (through the Kitchen Manager or Camp Manager) cleaning supplies.
  • Collects and launders used/dirty linen collected from guest rooms.
  • Folds, inventories, organizes and store clean linens after washing.
  • Completes duties listed on daily, weekly, and monthly checklists.
  • Assists with the training of other housekeeping personnel, as needed.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary personal appearance including good personal hygiene, grooming and hand washing habits.
  • Assists with the off-loading, unpacking, and storing of the weekly grocery deliveries, as requested.
  • Maintains familiarity with the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and follows the proper procedures for all cleaning supplies and chemicals that are used.
  • Ensures cleaning rags are properly managed, cleaned and disposed of, as necessary. Greasy rags will be removed from use and properly disposed.
  • Cleans laundry rooms and hallways in the sleeping area.
  • Clean the dining room and other areas of the camp as requested by the Camp Manager.
  • Participates in safety meetings.
  • Reviews and complies with all safety procedures.
  • Brings unsafe issues and concerns to the attention of the Camp Manager.
  • Builds and maintains good public relations with the client residents and co-workers.
  • Maintains accurate paperwork, i.e., timesheets, linen inventory sheets, room checklists.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • Valid Alaska Driver’s License and clean driving record
  • Service-Safe Certificate
  • Pass pre-employment requirements including criminal background check, drug and alcohol screening, TB test, and pre-employment physical.
  • Excellent organization, communication (both written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated, able to multi-task and work effectively with strong problem-solving skills
  • Work cooperatively with others in a team environment.

Physical Requirements:

The work requires routine walking, standing, bending, and carrying items weighing fifty pounds or less. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus. The employee is frequently required to climb stairs.

Working Environment:

The work location will be in a remote camp where successful applicants will reside and work 12 hour shifts for a series of consecutive days as defined by project rotations. The rotational periods are expected to be 3 weeks in duration but may on occasion extend longer due to weather impacting transportation activities or a variety of reasons preventing the position’s alternate from reporting to work on time.

The work will be performed in relatively close quarters, standing for long periods of time, lifting heavy objects, and working near hot surfaces. The work will be performed in relatively close quarters and include wide interaction with a variety of people with differing functions, personalities, and abilities. When working in a remote camp setting, the schedule will be 12-hour days, 7 days per week with occasional overtime. The position when in a remote camp setting may also experience after-hour call-outs. Personnel are likely to encounter clients/customers in the camp environment even when off-shift; therefore, all personnel are expected to dress appropriately and behave in a courteous, professional manner always. Even though alcohol may be present and available in the camp, consumption of alcohol by NGL personnel is not permitted.
