HSR Constructors is currently seeking Point of Contact for Roadway Work Groups (POC) for the Brightline Project that runs between West Palm Beach and Cocoa, Florida, with offices located in Melbourne and Ft. Pierce. This 128 mile-long project includes the construction of new track, the rehabilitation and upgrading of existing track; bridges; road crossings; and associated railroad signals work.

HSR Constructors is a joint venture of three of the leading railroad and transit contractors in the nation: Herzog, Stacy and Witbeck, and Railworks; who have joined to construct this fast-paced, high-profile project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Provide protection for Roadway Workers engaged in work on the railroad right-of-way by performing safety briefings and issuing instructions to the work groups as well as establishing a place of safety.
  • Attend Job Briefings with the RWIC (Roadway Worker in Charge) describing the work and hazards associated with this work, the equipment being used as well as an estimated time for the group to clear for a train.
  • Communicating by Radio, Whistle or Air Horn with each work group within their designated area about impending train movement through the work area.
  • Observing the railroad at all times for approaching trains and / or equipment.
  • Logging the passing of trains and / or equipment entering and leaving the work zone and gaining authority from the RWIC before continuing work along the corridor.
  • Be in a position to observe the work activities and continually observe the workplace for unsafe conditions.
  • Have all manuals and paper work on hand at all times. Follow all rules contained in the RWP training manual and wear all proper PPE 100% of the time while on duty or on Railroad property.
  • Have all the proper warning devices readily available.
  • Verify that Roadway Workers always possess a valid RWP card while on Railroad property.
  • Make sure all workers and equipment are clear and properly secured before leaving the premises.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one-year experience as a railroad employee, rail contractor, POC or RWIC.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Maintain valid driver’s license
  • Must have dependable transportation
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to communicate in written and verbal English language with some record keeping experience.
  • Must possess strong leadership interpersonal skills.
  • Be able to pass the Operating Rules and Regulations exam.
  • Learn the physical characteristics of the rail systems territory and pass the exam.
  • Proper radio communication procedures
  • Ability to maintain composure under the stress of emergency situations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, to lift objects weighing a minimum of 50 lbs. and must have the ability to distinguish colors, hear warning signals, radio and telephone devices.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat
  • Able to visually distinguish colors - red, blue, green, yellow; hear and distinguish auditory signals.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.)
