JOB DESCRIPTION

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN

GENERAL PURPOSE

Utilizes several software systems and knowledge of water system operation and construction to complete the designs for water main construction, enhance the water system’s GIS, and manage the water system’s fire hydrant, valve, and maintenance programs. Pe rforms a variety of routine and complex, skilled and technical work in the development of calculations and drawings for water main construction; performs routine and technical CAD (computer aided drawing) to indicate for a variety of reasons, the locations and details of water lines, valves, and hydrants within the water distribution system of the Inman - Campobello Water District (ICWD).

Utilizes, maintains, and is responsible for the ICWD’s geographic information system (GIS).

Utilizes a global positioning system (GPS) device for the purpose of collecting field data for as- builts or improving the accuracy of the ICWD’s water system maps. Utilizes InfoWater, a hydraulic water distribution modeling software, to perform water main design calculations and to maintain the ICWD water distribution system model.

Works under the general guidance and direction of the Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs design for water main extensions and water system improvements utilizing CAD.

Performs calculations for water main extensions for water system improvements utilizing

InfoWater.

Performs a full range of duties including but not limited to creating and maintaining drawing files, updating the permanent records map of the ICWD via the GIS, plotting drawings as necessary, publishing the updated GIS files to ICWD employees for their fi eld devices, taking field measurements and/or utilizing a GPS unit so that constructed water system facilities can be accurately depicted within the GIS.

Prepares and updates maps and drawings as needed for presentation purposes or to reflect changes to streets, improvements, infrastructure, water lines, valves, or hydrants.

Provides technical drawings and system advice to other staff members as required.

Maintains the ICWD water distribution model. Uses the distribution model to run scenarios so that Management may make decisions about capital improvements to the water system.

Researches records, maps, and other data as needed to obtain needed data such as the location of water mains, valves, hydrants, etc.

Responsible for the maintenance of infrastructure records.

Prepares drawings for submission to state and county highway departments for construction permits.

Researches records, maps and other data to obtain such typical data such as location of water mains, hydrants, etc. and zoning district designations or special property assessments.

Responsible for the preparation and maintenance of water system maps, plats, databases, and comprehensive plans.

Responsible for the maintenance of engineering and infrastructure records. Prepares as -built plans for water systems.

PERIPHERAL DUTIES

Performs other related duties as required.

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

(A) Associate's degree in Civil Engineering; and

(B) Two (2) years of graphics experience including Autocad and/or GIS; and

(C) 3 years of water system work experience: or

(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $46,000.00 - $62,500.00 per year
