CARITAS creates a safe space to heal and time to rebuild. Our five programs provide solutions for shelter, recovery services, workforce development, and the furniture bank.

The CARITAS Emergency Shelter, as one of the five programs of this thriving non-profit, provides compassionate hospitality to those experiencing homelessness in our region. Services are offered to both men and women on our Richmond campuses and basic needs such as shelter, meals, clothing, and connections to supportive services are provided. We take an integrated approach to helping people solve their housing crisis by connecting them with a housing specialist. This position provides supervision and guidance in the shelter environment and works alongside housing specialists, volunteers, and other CARITAS staff.

This is a non-exempt hourly position with 5 set shifts and is eligible for overtime.

Position Summary

• Serves as part of a dynamic and compassionate team to provide trauma informed care to all participants.
• Provide direct supervision of emergency shelter and facilitate a safe environment by compassionately enforcing program guidelines and policies.
• Engage with participants in a person-centered, trauma informed manner
• Oversee and facilitate daily shelter events and participant onsite appointments.
• Engage interns and volunteers as needed.
• Encourage participants to engage in their housing plan.
• Apply de-escalation techniques when necessary.
• Use Google Workspace to facilitate communication within the team.
• Complete and send reports to Shelter team following shift.
• Attend all staff trainings and meetings, as well as weekly supervision.
• Serve as a fill in for shifts if all other options have been exhausted.
• Rotating holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• Punctual and reliable.
• Ability to know and follow job expectations related to shift worked, including able to professional blend with program participants and other shelter staff.
• Skilled in conflict resolution, de-escalation methods, and in trauma informed care.
• Good oral and written communications skills, including experience using Microsoft Word and Google.
• Valid T.B. test within 2 weeks of being hired.
• Current CPR certification required within 1 month of being hired.

Hours: 8-hour shifts 5 days a week; 12am - 8am, 8am - 4pm, 4pm - 12am

Hourly Rate: $18 - $22 based on certifications
