Mission of Dropout Prevention Specialist
- Actively promotes the retention of students at risk for dropping out of high school.
- Consistently promotes at risk student success.
- Responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive intervention program(s) that utilizes home visits
- Coordinates with the school to plan for the personal/social development of all at risk students
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for reducing behaviors that put students at risk of not graduating from high school.
- An understanding of the multiplicity of community resources available to support students at risk of not graduating.
- Strong organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Maintaining a daily contact log on each participating student.
- Demonstrate high expectations for every student.
- Collect and submit requested data, program assessment/evaluations.
- Arrange, conduct, and/or facilitate monthly parent/family meetings.
- Make home visits when necessary.
- Identify community partners and establish working relationships.
- Provide or refer student services and resources to meet all student needs.
- Counsel students to understand their problems and teach them appropriate decision making.
- Collaborate with teachers, other school personnel, and agencies.
