We are seeking a Director of Purchasing to join our hard working and fast-paced team. The Purchasing Director oversees purchasing of goods and services, ensuring cost and quality standards are met. Establishes policies and procedures for identifying, evaluating, selecting, and negotiating with vendors. Develops purchasing procedures (RFP/RFQ, bid, purchase order, or requisition processes) meant to ensure that quality standards for purchased goods or services are met while costs are minimized. This role directly manages vendor relationships to resolve quality, shipping, or invoicing issues.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage purchasing team.
  • Build and develop strategic relationships with new and existing vendors to leverage their knowledge and resources and support the company’s strategic plan.
  • Create, maintain, evaluate, and update specifications for all products to meet the needs of Sales and Operations.
  • Monitor commodity markets and proactively identify, discuss, and resolve potential issues.
  • Implement best practices and improve process efficiencies throughout the entire supply chain process.
  • Oversee and negotiate any major ingredients and packaging contracts.
  • Involved in the implementation of USB purchasing processes for company expansions and acquisitions.
  • Manage the MRP process.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators to ensure partnership alignment on supplier performance.
  • Source new products and work cross-functionally with other departments to ensure successful testing and roll-out.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations.
  • Adherence to company policies.
  • Support and adherence to Franz Core Values.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelors or master’s degree in Protein Science, Ag Business, Supply Chain, Business or other related fields preferred.
  • A minimum of 7 years of purchasing, inventory control, ingredients, packaging, and management responsibilities; Preferably in the food industry.

Critical Skills and Expertise:

  • Ability to think critically and execute longer-term strategy.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Thorough understanding of COGs variables including pricing, mix shifts, and inventory swings.
  • Strong computer skills- Microsoft Office Suite which includes Outlook, Word, and Excel. Preferred Navision and or other ERP Software experience.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Travel: Light.
