Job description

As a diesel mechanic, you will perform routine maintenance and all necessary repairs on company fleet vehicles including concrete mixer trucks, dump trucks, and any other vehicles or equipment as needed. The ideal candidate for the Diesel Mechanic position will be self-motivated, organized, and goal oriented. They will be able to effectively complete all duties outlined below and meet all qualifications and proficiencies as required by the position.

Duties

Norwalk Ready Mix maintains a fleet of concrete mixer trucks, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and miscellaneous other company vehicles. As a Diesel Mechanic you will:

  • Perform diagnostic tests for routine maintenance procedures and determine a course of action for damaged parts and systems.
  • Repair malfunctioning components, retrofit engines, change brakes, adjust steering systems, replace worn-out parts and change hydraulic fluids.
  • Use computerized equipment along with lathes, welding torches, pneumatic wrenches, hydraulic jacks, screwdrivers, pliers, mallets and precision gauges.
  • Test drive trucks before and after repairs, as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Functional Demands Related to Essential Job Functions

These measurements are not to be presumed as a comprehensive list:

  • Manually open truck hood, requiring up to 75 pounds pushing force at a height of approximately 48 inches.
  • Demonstrate good balance and agility to step up/down from truck cab with step heights up to 22 inches and perform work while on a ladder.
  • Must be capable of all planes of reaching to include from ground to waist, to chest level, to shoulder level and up to 72" above the ground.
  • Operate hand tools.

Work Environment

  • Primary work will be conducted in climate-controlled facility in Norwalk. Off-site and/or outdoor work may be required occasionally.
  • Exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable.
  • Exposure to diesel exhaust, dust, and water mist or vapor.

Clothing & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • High-visibility work shirt, vest, and/or coat
  • Work pants, jeans, and/or coveralls
  • Hardhat
  • Safety-toed work boots
  • Safety glasses
  • Hearing protection

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience or training as a mechanic required
  • 2-3 years’ experience in the field OR AAS in Diesel Technology preferred
  • CDL B preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00 - $32.00 per hour
