Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
Under general supervision, the Coordinator for Fraternity and Sorority Life is responsible for student advisement, educational programming, and chapter management for fraternities and sororities at the University of South Carolina. This role ensures the development of transformative leaders and allows opportunities for students to participate in beyond the classroom activities. This position will actively contribute to the rich, vibrant, and inclusive living and learning experience for all members of the Greek community.

Primary Duties Include:
  • Serves as the primary advisor to at least one governing council, oversees their recruitment/intake processes, orientation, and new member education.
  • Serves as the primary advisor to a cohort of chapters through the chapter coaching model. Serves as a liaison for the University when working with local/regional/state advisors and national headquarters staff.
  • Manages and oversees the Annual Chapter Expectations program including the development and planning of programming to support the initiatives; implementation of a year-round tracking system; and creation and communication of a submission process.
  • Trains and oversees student leaders in maintaining membership and academic records, including but not limited to renewal/registration process, chapter roster changes that impact other financial and academic processes, and Beyond The Classroom Matters programs.
  • Implements community-wide education, programming, and assessment efforts that support the development of skills that helps student leaders prepare for a successful transition to the job field after graduation.
  • Assists in the emergency support system for the Greek community and respond to critical incidents as needed. Serves as a member on the on-call duty rotation and as an investigator for the Critical Incident Investigation Team.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.

This position has been designated as essential personnel during inclement / hazardous weather and other emergencies. May graduates will be considered if they will be able to obtain their degree by the date of employment.
This position will be asked to flex time to work some nights and weekends for functions and events.

This position will also support the University’s mission and goals through participating in recruitment and retention activities, as appropriate, for prospective and current students.

Preferred Qualifications
Membership in a Greek organization is strongly preferred. Master’s degree in higher education or related field and/or experience in the areas of curriculum or program development, fraternity/sorority operations, advisement, publications, and computer skills are strongly preferred. Fraternity/sorority leadership consultant experience or experience at a national headquarters office is strongly preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of the basic principles and theories of student development, leadership theory and public relations. Ability to interact with internal and external constituents and community partners on a regular basis. Experience planning and executing special events and one-time programs. Ability to interpret and apply policy and procedure as it applies to program coordination and implementation. Coordinate multiple high level tasks simultaneously with high degree of attention to detail.
