Hiring Manager Job Title: Collections Manager

Employment Status: Full-time Regular

Primary Location: TUPELO, MS

Job Summary: Locate and notify customers of delinquent accounts by mail, text, or telephone to solicit payment.
Duties include receiving customer payments, giving payoff quotes along with their per diem. Each collector has a cash drawer that they are individually responsible for. Making decisions on whether to repossess or litigate an account. If the vehicle is repossessed, the collector is responsible for sending the required legal documents to the customer via certified mail. They also have an obligation to find a way to get the customer back into their vehicle before the vehicle is sold at auction and the account is charged off. Collectors must be able to deescalate a disgruntled customer while remaining professional at the same time. Collectors must notate every conversation/ interaction they have with the customer in the notes section under each particular customer's account. Collectors must be able to make at least 150 calls per day. The collector must be proficient with computers along with using
Excel and Word for reports.

Education and Experience High School Diploma - or the equivalent (for example, GED)

Financial institution and/or collection experience preferred

Knowledge

Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Mathematics - A general knowledge of mathematics is a must.

Economics and Accounting - A basic understanding of simple interest, precomputed interest, and the Rule of
78s. The collector must be able to explain to the customer how interest accrues on their auto loan, and how deferments/extensions/late payments will affect their overall finance charges.

Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.

Primary Job Duties

  • Receive payments and post the payments correctly to the customer's account. Once the payment is posted, the collector must provide the customer with a receipt.
  • Locate and monitor overdue accounts, using computers and a variety of automated systems.
  • Record information about the financial status of customers and status of collection efforts in the system notes.
  • Locate and notify customers of delinquent accounts by mail, text, and telephone to solicit payment.
  • Confer with customers by telephone, or in person, to determine reasons for past due payments and to review the terms of sales, service, or credit contracts.
  • Advise customers of necessary actions and strategies for debt repayment.
  • Persuade customers to pay amounts due on credit accounts, damage claims, or non payable/NSF checks, or to return merchandise.
  • Sort and file correspondence and perform miscellaneous clerical duties, such as answering correspondence and writing reports.
  • Perform various administrative functions for assigned accounts, such as updated telephone numbers, physical addresses, mailing addresses, or any other pertinent information related to the customer's account.
  • Arrange for debt repayment or establish repayment schedules, based on customers' financial situations.
  • Trace delinquent customers to new addresses by skip tracing the account.
  • Repossess vehicles and following the repossession through to the actual sale of collateral
  • Answer customer questions regarding problems with their accounts.
