Executive Director Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

  • The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. Required workweek of 25 hours per week, paid on a salaried basis every other week.
  • Responsible for setting policy for the Chamber with the Board of Directors, for giving it direction, and for determining what its short- and long-term goals will be.
  • Chief spokesperson for the Chamber in the community and represents the Chamber at all Chamber-hosted events.
  • Responsible for being the presiding officer at meetings (and functions requiring such a role).
  • Organizes community leadership and presents the Chamber of Commerce as the vehicle to unify actions of other organizations.
  • Responsible for creating and keeping a calendar of key events and deadlines for the calendar year and distributing it to the Board.
  • Responsible for maintaining & building membership with new businesses in the community.
  • Encourages members to participate in the organization.
  • Responsible for setting up volunteer appointments of chairpersons to head committees and task forces.
  • Shall approve an annual budget with the Board of Directors that provides the necessary resources, including money and manpower, to carry out the Chamber’s planned events and activities, and regularly review the financial status of the organization.
  • Manages the communication with members, city officials, media outlets, other organizations, and the community. Utilizing Press Releases, Email blast, Social Media, etc.
  • Responsible for timely communication through management of the Chamber website, email, and phone.

  • Strong ability to foster teamwork and collaboration between/among Board members, staff, Chamber members, community leaders, elected officials and strategic committees and organizations.
  • Strong leadership skills, including ability to plan, organize, lead, delegate, and monitor
  • Passion for collaboration and networking
  • Excellent skills in community consensus building
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and manage a budget, to analyze organization performance and to project financial performance.
  • Ability to perform cost-benefit analysis of proposed ideas, projects and events.
  • Ability to work a wide and flexible range of business hours, including travel on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to motivate others to be champions of chamber initiatives

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years management/executive level experience in a business-related field or other leadership position
  • Working knowledge of local, regional and state-level political systems and experience in developing collaborative relationships in these areas
  • Minimum of 2 years financial bookkeeping experience

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $29,000.00 per year
