Cornell Health’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers confidential counseling services, designed to help students with mental health concerns that may be affecting their quality of life and ability to learn. Our providers include psychologists, social workers, and mental health counselors from diverse cultural and clinical backgrounds. CAPS providers value students in all of their individuality, and are committed to welcoming all people with respect and sensitivity. Our providers regularly collaborate with Cornell Health’s diverse array of healthcare providers as an integrated service that support both the mind and the body.


Reporting to the Assistant Director of Counseling and Psychological Services, the BASICS Provider is a member of a multidisciplinary service team within Cornell Health's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) with expertise in the area of substance education and misuse prevention. The BASICS provider delivers BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening & Intervention for College Students) assessments and education to individual students, and works closely with the Cornell Health AOD team to collaboratively support the aim of increasing student knowledge in the interest of safety and wellness around their substance use. This position serves as a resource for substance use and misuse education, and may consult with faculty, staff, and parents regarding individual cases as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in higher education administration, public health, health education/health communication, counseling, or a closely related field of study
  • Two or more years’ experience in program planning, coordination, and evaluation, preferably in a university setting
  • Experience in college health or working with college-aged individuals
  • Experience working in an integrated health care environment, with a strong commitment to collaborative work
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, computer proficiency; comfortable with speaking in public
  • Flexible in adjusting to a changing work environment, job responsibilities, and departmental priorities
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in college health or working with college-aged individuals
  • Experience working in an integrated health care environment, with a strong commitment to collaborative work
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, computer proficiency; comfortable with speaking in public
  • Flexible in adjusting to a changing work environment, job responsibilities, and departmental priorities
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

This is a full-time, 11 month position. There is no visa sponsorship available for this position.
