Shenandoah Valley Head Start is a regional preschool program serving the communities of Augusta, Bath, Highland, Harrisonburg, Rockingham, Staunton, and Waynesboro. SVHS is a federal grant funded program with a long standing history of success. Our mission is to provide a quality preschool program that forms partnerships among families, sites, and communities. The program emphasizes the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development that is age appropriate for children while encouraging lifelong learning and empowering families through parent engagement.
Pre-School 4 year-old teacher, at River Bend Elementary School
The Head Start teacher is responsible for planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy, language, vocabulary, appreciation of books, understanding of early math and early science, problem-solving abilities, and approaches to learning; establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment; supporting social and emotional development; and encouraging the involvement of the families.
This position is school-based. Salary and benefits are administered by Augusta County Schools. An endorsement in Elementary Education or related field with coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education is required, and additional ECSE endorsement is preferred. Qualified current or previous Head Start parents are encouraged to apply. Professional development, comprehensive services, general support/oversight related to regulations will be provided by staff of SVHS in cooperation with onsite administration.
