Our team oversees a portfolio of integrated technology solutions and provides both support and consulting on how to deepen their relationship with the school and with each other.

We are an experienced team of information and technology professionals who have invested in building the foundation, eliminating silos, and increasing data quality across multiple systems. The School is preparing for our next digital transformation, and is seeking a forward-thinking, strategic, and customer-focused Associate Director to support and drive the development of innovative solutions, services, and strategies.

Who you are: Do you want the challenge of leading within a complex technology program? The vision for this position is to become an indispensable technology leader to help achieve desired goals and objectives with a mission to use information to provide a reliable foundation for decision-making, opportunity realization and targeted business improvements. You will understand trends in technology and anticipate organizational needs to help inform operations and increase the effectiveness and efficiency of fundraising, prospect management, and alumni engagement activities. Working with the Senior Director of Information Technology, you will oversee multiple aspects of technology operations and administration.

In this role, you are responsible to advise and execute on all aspects of good IT governance, communications, change management, and business process improvements.
  • Provide daily operational support to the External Relations (ER) Department and ensure high-quality services.
  • Reporting to the Director, the Associate Director is an active and engaged member within the ER IT team and collaborates with colleagues across the department to facilitate change management related to advancement solutions.
  • Administer several departmental applications that are specific to ER operations.
    • Manage the departmental software for project management and workflow management.
    • Provide support for incoming queries from department users.
    • Troubleshoot and respond to user requests and questions, research, and correct systems problems, and follow up with the end users to ensure satisfactory resolution of systems-related issues.
    • Direct staff to technology support services available from HBS IT.
  • Partner with departmental stakeholders to understand their objectives that are supported through available technologies.
  • Participate in projects to document requirements, scope solutions, and develop solutions.
  • Lead and participate in daily team standups and recurring meetings on the management of all departmental technology systems and infrastructure.
  • Be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Additional Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or similar related field.
  • Minimum 7 years’ direct experience working in an IT and business environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of Data & Analytics, Master Data Management, & CRM Implementation tools/platforms
Additional Qualifications:
  • Agile, Scrum, or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired
  • Experience implementing solutions to facilitate the work of development operations and alumni engagement or equivalent business functions in other industries.
  • Advanced degree in Business, Computer Science or related area is preferred

  • Communication Skills: Able to convey information in a professional, precise, and easy-to-understand manner for various roles and levels of technical understanding through verbal and written communications.
  • Proven experience within an organization supporting a hybrid and 100% remote environment.
  • Ability to analyze complex information and recommend action steps.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking skills; ability to work under pressure and against deadlines, must have flexibility and the ability to shift quickly and efficiently; must have the ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative, organizing multiple concurrent tasks.
  • Experience working for non-profit, academia, or government.
  • Experience providing high-level technology client services or working in a customer service environment.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Work together with HBS IT and the Director, to maintain relationships with key vendors while working to identify and establish relationships with new providers.
    • Work closely with our local HBS IT department on both the maintenance and innovation of the technology portfolio.
  • Collaborate with a team of diverse individuals with various experience levels and skillsets.
  • Work closely with the team to understand challenges and issues; encourage and foster creative, collaborative problem-solving between IT team members.
  • Manage the onboarding of ER staff regarding departmental IT operations processes and technologies.
  • Support school and university efforts to ensure the security and privacy of all data managed within the department.
  • Prepare comprehensive and consistent documentation of business systems and interdependencies.
  • Maintain proficiency in current processes and workflows.
  • Recommend new solutions (e.g., process changes, new software, or new ways of using existing software) to improve operational efficiency and/or financial performance.
  • Ensure the availability of continuous technical training for yourself and the ER IT team.
  • Review the performance of IT systems and prepare recommendations for the improvement and optimization of infrastructure.
  • Monitor the industry for developments in IT operations; evaluate and recommend relevant new tools and service management frameworks.
  • Develop complex, in-depth communications for internal and external audiences and manage projects that involve coordinating multiple departmental team

Additional Information

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 2 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.
