The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.
Job Description:

Southside Virginia Community College is seeking an Applications Support Technician, reporting to the Chief Information Officer, to be responsible for the college’s Learning Management System (LMS) and other software applications for the college in order to ensure continuous and reliable functionality to the students, faculty, administrators, and staff. This position will be responsible for monitoring system performance, development of process documentation, and assisting with internal auditing. This position is considered the second level of support for the Application Support Helpdesk.

Core Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate and manage the Learning Management System
  • Keep documentation current and communicate to the college community
  • Provide support for the LMS and online learning environment to faculty and students
  • Provide Tier II Helpdesk support
  • Special Projects

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Recent experience with computer applications including intermediate to advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and Google Workspace; ability to troubleshoot problems with use of technology
  • Organization skills, attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and goal-oriented environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated self-starter who can work effectively both as a team member of Applications Support and independently. Must be collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze data and provide reports
  • Knowledge of educational enterprise applications including Canvas
  • Ability to communicate effectively at a technical and also end-user level both orally and in writing
  • Ability to develop procedures and written documentation for complex information systems
  • Ability to handle multiple, complex programs simultaneously while meeting day-to-day needs and periodic deadlines

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a related field
  • Considerable Community College work experience
  • Knowledge of business processes and administrative functions in a large educational environment
  • Strong working knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations
