Job Summary

Sensient Pharmaceuticals is a globally unique supplier for the full range of sensory excipients, highly recognized for its high quality and innovative products. This specifically includes the sale of Colors, Coatings, Flavors, and Extracts for both the Pharmaceutical and Nutraceutical markets globally. The Applications Technologist within the Pharmaceutical group provides technical assistance to internal and external customers primarily through formulation, custom blending, prototyping, and troubleshooting small scale and commercial scale trial batches. The position requires the ability to speak at internal and external training seminars on process and product development, optimization and scale-up with a commercial focus. The Application Technologist will manage projects at Sensient and customer location sites and be an integral part of the technical team.

Responsibilities after thorough on-boarding

Responsible for technical support activities and coordination of Sensient technical resources to ensure project success as part of the technical team.

Lead technical application discussions with customers and Account Managers using the various technical information tools available.

Understand customer core formulation and guide development and troubleshooting strategies.

Recommend optimal product selection based on customers desired target markets and associated regulatory requirements.

Lead colors/coatings projects as part of the technical team.

Coordinate communications between the customer and Sensient’s Regulatory department.

Understand common analytical tools such as UV-Vis, colorimeter, pH meter, Brix meter, etc.

Understand the key features and benefits of Sensient’s products. Recommend product applications based on customer’s desires, formulation, and processing requirements.

Coordinate Sensient’s product sampling in a timely fashion with close cooperation from the sample lab.

Travel to customer’s research and manufacturing sites to promote and support the use of Sensient’s products.

Prepare and present technical information for both internal and external training seminars and product promotion events.

Formulate new products applicable to customer’s needs.

Prepare Technical Service project reports, itineraries, and lab work reports.

Education & Experience

University degree (B.S. or higher) in, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Food Science or related scientific discipline required.

Minimum of two years’ experience in formulation in coatings, colors, flavors applications.

Understanding of the pharmaceutical development and registration process is preferred.

Knowledge of fluid bed equipment, perforated pan coating equipment, granulators, tablet presses, encapsulators, and tablet or capsule printers preferred.

Knowledge of Project Management and Analytical Analysis preferred.

Previous experience giving technical presentations at an academic or industry forum preferred.

Excellent English language skills (both fluent in spoken and written), other additional language proficiencies are an advantage.

Proficient knowledge of MS Office products(Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Experience with JD Edwards and/or other business database software tools used to request samples, maintain accurate accountabilities in notebooks of new product developments, and capture notes of key customer interactions according to company format protocols.
