Primary Function

The Application Engineer is to provide solutions and services in the area of programming and design with Automation related solutions for the customer. The Application Engineer must develop and sustain an excellent knowledge of SESCOs Automation product and service offerings to fully integrate solutions. The Application Engineer also works closely with outside, inside, automation staff and with our manufacturing partners to support programming and design needs.

Essential Responsibilities

• Programs and supports specific automation solutions including but not limited to PLCs, HMIs, Vision, Safety, Motion, SCADA, Bar Code Systems and RFID.
• Completes design work and/or drawings necessary to integrate the components supplied and/or recommended including control cabinet layouts.
• Supports installed automation products.
• Provides technical assistance and training to aid in a seamless integration of recommended solutions. Training is on a qualified and as needed basis.
• Maintains excellent product and software knowledge.
• Works with SESCOs demos, provides suggestions for improvement or upgrades and keeps them in optimal condition for use on customer sales calls.
• Supports sales associates on technical product selection and application.
• Develops and maintains a database of automation manufacturing contacts, including names, titles, and email addresses, to assure a constant flow of information is available to all SESCO associates.
• Provides material lists or BOMs to the sales associates for handling the quotations process for the proposed solution.
• Assists in start-up and debugging of the customers system as required.
• Stimulates an interest in customers for additional available technical products and services.
• Provides application assistance by telephone, e-mail or on-site as required.
• Follows-up on all recommended and generated solutions to assure that customers are being serviced and documents the outcome of the proposed solution.
• Cooperates with key manufacturing partners to secure mutual business through using their products when applicable.
• Communicates well with customers, sales associates and manufacturing partners to ensure a professional experience.
• Develops an effective and productive working relationship with branch associates, sales associates and all managers.

Other Responsibilities

• Attends product-training classes to develop superior product knowledge to handle customer applications.
• As requested, attends sales meetings and specified manufacturers schools.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required to successfully complete the job.

Necessary Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Engineering or closely related field; or Associates degree in closely related field or equivalent academic training from a technical school with two years of experience; or equivalent on the job experience as determined by Springfield Electric.
• Commitment to and demonstration of high ethical standards governing professional behavior and interactions.
• Proven proficiency in the use of a personal computer accompanied by a strong aptitude for technical applications.
• Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats.

Physical Ability Requirements

• Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time, including as a driver or passenger in an automobile
• Ability to utilize a computer keyboard, computer monitor, adding machine, and telephone for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to visit and move around at construction and other work sites, including the ability to maneuver in tight or small places.
• Ability to distinguish color of electrical wiring products to assure proper and safe product installation.
• Ability to lift, carry, and otherwise transport work-related materials that frequently weigh up to 80 lbs. and that may occasionally weigh in excess of 80 lbs.
