Overview

Job Summary:
Physician Assistant/ Acute Care NP should demonstrate an advanced level of medical knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation. Works directly and in collaboration with the Pulmonary/ Critical Care Medicine team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and preform history and physical examinations
  • Record and interpret pertinent data (i.e., labs, diagnostic studies, discharge summaries, progress notes, etc.)
  • Write orders under supervision of a licensed physician
  • Formulate and implement treatment plan for acute illness management in collaboration with the designated primary supervising physician and/or attending back up physician(s).
  • Assess patient for change in status and institute appropriate interventions. Initiate necessary emergency interventions to stabilize patient.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary rounds.
  • Participate in call as assigned
  • Maintain communication with patients and families regarding ongoing medical care and supportive needs.
  • Perform technical skills and other medical acts as delegated by the supervising physician when hospital requirements have been satisfied such as central lines, thoracentesis, and intubations.
  • Serve as a resource for nursing staff and other members of the health care team.
  • Actively participate in conferences and presentations as well as other staff education including but not limited to quality improvements initiatives as directed.
  • Preform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices.
  • Report any unsafe activities to supervisor in a timely manner, including conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees patients and visitors.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Nurse Practitioner requires a Master's degree in Adult Care Advanced Practice Nursing.
  • Physician Assistant must complete Physician Assistant program and must be Certified.
  • Candidate must be appropriately licensed as and NP/PA or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of KY as appropriate.
  • At least one year of inpatient medicine or ICU experience preferred.
  • BLS/ACLS Certification

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Education for Staff Job Levels


Graduate from an accredited AC Nurse Practitioner PA-C Program


Required Licensure and Certifications


Current APRN /PA-C licensure required. BLS required.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities


Minimum of three years full-time experience as APRN/PA-C in specialty area. Must possess and maintain BLS and ACLS. Demonstrated clinical competence; ability to collaborate with others; ability to initiate and plan own activities; effective patient/staff teaching. Must apply for hospital privileges. Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and understand the Associate Handbook and all hospital policies.
