Position Description
This is a service position in which members will serve as Youth Development Specialists. Members will be required to complete a full service term of 1700 hours. Upon completion of service term, each member will earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award in the amount of $6,495. Also, a Living Stipend totaling in the amount of $16,502 will be provided in which the amount will be divided up and paid bi-weekly. This position is preferably for all candidates who recently graduated from high school, are current college students, or looking to pursue other post-secondary education endeavors. This position will receive benefits as well (Vision, Medical, and Dental). Normal service hours are between 2:00pm-8:00pm during afterschool program and from 9:00am-5:00pm during the summer Monday through Friday. Hours can slightly differ due to special events and extended programming days due to non-school CPS days.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Assist program staff in facilitation of Project Learn Programs which include but not limited to: Power Hour, Triple Play (Daily Challenges and Social Recreation), Healthy Habits, STEAM/STEM, I Am A Reader, etc.
  • Assure that all clubs participate in required AmeriCorps Serve Illinois National Days of Service. Club placement members will take lead in organizing and facilitating of all service activities with support from program staff and club leadership. All clubs will be required to participate in the following service projects: Veterans Week, MLK Jr. Day, and National AmeriCorps Week.
  • Attend the annual AmeriCorps Serve Illinois National Service Summit event to be held in Springfield, IL.
  • Collect sign in sheets for assigned daily/weekly programs.
  • Must complete the First Aid/CPR Training when offered.
  • Provides guidance and role modeling to our club youth.
  • Helps maintain order and discipline of club members.
  • Participates in all required BGCC PD trainings to expand knowledge and skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.
