Overview:
The Accountant prepares and enters journal entries to the general ledger to help ensure accurate, timely and properly coded financial transactions in support of monthly, quarterly and year-end close. This position supports the Controller and senior accountants with various accounting functions and analyses, and has the primary responsibility for maintenance of files and documentation to support accounting transactions.

This is a temporary non-benefited role scheduled to last approximately 6 months.

This is a hybrid position that is a blend of working both remotely and in office. Must reside in the Northwest Service Region (Oregon or Washington).

Responsibilities:
Major Responsibilities / Essential Functions

General Accounting

Assist with timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes by performing the following:
Prepare, enter and proof journal entries
Collaborate with Northwest Permanente and Kaiser Permanente Health Plan colleagues to ensure deadlines are met on a timely basis
Research journal entries as requested or needed; investigate unusual transactions
Prepare monthly analysis on select accounts
Contribute to oversight of the recharge process, including management of individual agreements
Participate in cross-training within the department as needed

OneLink Travel and Expense Module (T&E)

Review expense reports prepared by others to ensure sufficient documentation is included and general ledger coding is appropriate
Manage flow of worklist to ensure timely approval of reports
Audit expense reports submitted for accuracy and completeness
Oversee corporate card management and maintenance
Maintain documentation for items such as staff dues, licensing, credentialing, donations, gifts, etc.

Other

Support Finance department with budgeting questions and analysis
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or four (4) years equivalent work experience

Minimum Work Experience

Minimum one (1) year of accounting or finance experience

Additional Requirements

Working knowledge of math and accounting principles and their application
Knowledge of inter-entity accounting, include usage of Due To/Due From accounts
Demonstrated experience in a computer-based accounting system
Effective analytical skills
Excellent skills in the Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Strong written and oral communication skills, including explaining financial information
Ability to work under time constraint.
Solid interpersonal skills. Must be a self-starter with strong sense of initiative and follow-through

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or four (4) years equivalent work experience

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications

Three (3) years experience in Accounting or Finance
Advanced knowledge of computer applications and environments, including databases
Previous experience in a healthcare organization
Previous experience at Kaiser Permanente
