Youth Services Skills Specialist

NILP is a rapidly growing, human service agency who assists persons with all types of disabilities who wish to live independently in their community throughout Northeast Massachusetts. NILP provides five core services of Advocacy, Peer Counseling, Information and Referral, Independent Living Skills Training, and Transition. NILP believes in consumer control and self-direction and provides these services with the knowledge that persons with disabilities are the best determinants of their needs and goals.

Under the supervision of the Youth Services Manager, the Youth Services Skills Specialist will build relationships with local businesses and organizations to recruit for internship sites for the youth, provide job development and skills training. We are seeking applicants who are passionate about helping others and willingness to show a commitment to Independent Living philosophy.

What you will be doing:

• Provide independent living skills to youth through job development and skills training
• Provide information and referral, advocacy, skills training, peer counseling and service coordination to program participants
• Establish relationships with local businesses and discover workplace learning experiences for youth
• Document progress notes in computerized data management system

Who we are looking for:

• A degree in related field or equivalent work experience
• Awareness and sensitivity to disability and multicultural issues
• Preference will be given for persons living with a disability or with significant personal experience with disability
• Excellent organizational skills
• Solid written and verbal communication skills; computer skills required
• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
