General Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Clinical Education, the Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for promoting best practice through staff development and education ensuring optimal patient outcomes and contributing to a high reliability organization. The Clinical Nurse Educator will collaborate with interprofessional teams to develop, implement, and evaluate evidence-based educational initiatives. Using care models, nursing theories, and adult learning principles, the Clinical Nurse Educator will provide a safe, engaging learning environment for diverse learners across a variety of settings in harmony with the organization’s mission and vision.
The Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for assisting with competency-based educational programming for nursing and supporting clinical staff, including Medical Assistants. They will assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of a new-hire orientation process and preceptor program. In addition, the Clinical Nurse Educator will contribute to short and long-term growth plans for the education department that support organizational growth.
This role necessitates an organized, strategic, flexible critical thinker who is able to multi-task and meet the demands of an evolving workforce. The Clinical Nurse Educator will provide innovative and creative teaching strategies that incorporate evidence-based practice and research and support an environment of scholarly inquiry. They will assist in organizing nursing contact hour delivery and ongoing educational opportunities for nursing and clinical leadership throughout the organization. The Clinical Nurse Educator is a leader in the integration and synthesis of clinical experience, human behavior, nursing education theory, and evidence-based practice and research. They will be responsible for creating and contributing to a high-performance culture and trusting, mentorship environment that supports best outcomes and excellence in patient care delivery.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree BSN required
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island
  • Current BLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or Education preferred
  • Nursing Education experience preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • 3+ years of clinical nursing experience preferred
Physical Effort/Environment:
General office/classroom environment. Transportation needed for travel between locations and external meetings.
Clinical education and/or clinical practice may include physical activity, walking, standing, stooping, and occasional lifting. Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and biohazardous materials.
Manual dexterity for injections, computer use
Knowledge of safety and infection control standards of practice

Work Schedule Demands:
This role is a combination of remote and on-site work. Schedule is primarily M-F, 830am-5:00pm, but flexible. Evenings and weekends required for special events and meetings.

Significant Job Functions:
The Clinical Nurse Educator will have an overall understanding of the healthcare industry, recognizing potential trends while understanding how to mitigate risks and uncertainties that may arise. They will have a high level of clinical practice, leadership, and communication skills to facilitate evidence-based practice and improvement methods. The practice of the Clinical Nurse Educator will be based on knowledge, experience, and research as they operationalize facility-wide learning initiatives and promote best practice through staff development.

Responsibilities for the Clinical Nurse Educator:
  • Perform nursing practice in accordance with relevant policies and guidelines
  • Collaborate with medical providers, patient care staff, and unit management in the planning, implementation, delivery, and evaluation of educational curricula
  • Practice with knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum, training design, and project management; teaching and instruction for individuals and groups; and evaluation of curricula
  • Educate patient care staff in the use of new equipment, supplies, and instruments; coordinate in-service training and workshops for appropriate staff
  • Demonstrate knowledge/experience in nursing education principles and theory
  • Demonstrate skills in applying adult learning principles, assessment and evaluation, and interpreting complex data
  • Understand human behavior and performance and individual differences in ability, personality, interests, learning, and motivation
  • Develop and deliver evidence-based curricula in a safe, culturally competent, trauma-informed learning environment
  • Work in partnership with department and site leadership to develop, maintain, and evaluate a newly formed on-boarding training program and co-existing preceptor program
  • Provide clinical support and on-going education of new and existing nurses
  • Assist in the organization of nursing contact hours and educational programs to nursing and clinical support staff
  • Develop and maintain clinical educational resources
  • Participate in relevant committees, meetings, and service activities as required and provide feedback and dissemination of appropriate information
  • Participate in strategic planning, ad hoc projects, and educational activities as assigned for the department
  • Foster an environment that supports utilization of nursing research
  • Ensure compliance with HRSA and FTCA regulations
  • Promote and cultivate positive relationships with academic programs to foster positive image and relationships with Thundermist Health Center.
