SUMMARY: Performs fit-up and welding of all company products from mechanical drawings using GMAW (MIG) and GTAW (TIG) processes. Individuals in this position can also design and build jigs and fixtures to enhance productivity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Welder I and II responsibilities included.
  • Performs welding of all company products using GMAW (MIG) or GTAW (TIG)
  • Performs fit-up of any company product to mechanical drawings with no assistance
  • Designs and builds jigs and fixtures for multiple piece tasks or as needed
  • Communicates with engineering for clarity and problem solving
  • Interacts with and coordinates other welders in the fabrication of large products
  • Mentor Welder I and II’s on welding and quality control of product
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High degree of proficiency with GMAW (MIG) & GTAW (TIG) welding including process trouble shooting
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings with no assistance preferred
  • Proficient with accurate measuring instruments including calipers, micrometers and dial indicators
  • Able to pass math & measurement assessment
  • Must pass advanced GMAW (MIG) weld test & GTAW (TIG) weld test
  • Demonstrate SMAW (stick) welding proficiency by certifying to SMG-07 preferred
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • High school welding (MIG) and (TIG) certificate preferred
  • Post high school certificate or degree in welding preferred
  • Verifiable weld training or experience (MIG, TIG a plus) preferred
  • 5 years of fit-up and MIG & TIG welding experience with carbon steel & stainless steel preferred
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Must have basic reading and writing skills in the English language
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Able to convert decimals to fractions and fractions to decimals
  • Ability to read a tape measure within 1/16”
COMPUTER SKILLS:
  • Basic data entry skills including how to print documents
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the non-air conditioned work environment is moderate. Steel toe shoes are required.
