Brief Description:

The VP, Patient Access and Strategic Engagement will design, build and drive UBC’s overall patient access strategy-including methodologies and a roadmap for internal processes, tools, systems and capabilities required to produce and differentiate UBC’s success in the marketplace. The position will be responsible to research and communicate solutions in the following areas: Prescriber awareness and enrollment approaches, Pharmacy and Medical benefit verifications, solutions for helping healthcare providers understand payer policies and associated processes to help patients start on therapy, financial support solutions including co-pay and PAP programs and drug or biologic strategies.

Specific job duties:
  • Utilize information from across the group and other internal functional groups and systems to plan, build and deliver Patient programs to clients
  • Collaborate with internal departments in identifying/implementing business development opportunities to expand the services and continually improve the business performance of each Patient service offering
  • Serve as a resource for other sales and marketing staff members, internally at UBC
  • Aid sales team in the identification and alignment of capabilities with current and potential customers; support the RFP process
  • The position is viewed as a “solutions architect” for clients and ultimately should achieve “Trusted Advisor” status with clients, providers and patients alike
  • Regularly attends and speaks at trade shows and conferences; authors “White papers” in area of expertise
  • Develops plans to characterize the Patient Journey
  • Creates a “Strategic vision for Patient Support Solutions” based on market and client needs. Translates strategies into tactical plans including development of specific programs, job aids and the training approach for successful implementations
  • Contributes to marketing content for both internal and external awareness and branding of UBC
  • Supports the budget development process and in the development and achievement of key fiscal outcome metrics
  • Work with Quality and Technology teams to collect, analyze, summarize and report-out on performance data
  • Work closely with SVP- Business Development to ensure seamless project startups that exceed client expectations
  • Provide day-to-day leadership that mirrors the mission and values of UBC
  • Facilitates discussions to enable people to collaborate with each other independently-across all internal functions
  • The position brings a consultative approach from lead generation to award the program installation
  • Maintain a deep industry knowledge of novel and innovative tools, technologies and services that advantage products at both launch as well as through its on-going product lifecycle
  • Designs and delivers programs to facilitate optimum patient and or prescriber experiences for a given therapy
  • Collaborates with internal staff (Sales, Tech, Ops) to help increase win rates for UBC proposals
  • Manage relationships with partners/vendors/clients
  • Continuously develop and cultivate business relationships within senior levels of customer organizations
  • Leads and occasionally participate in proposal preparation meetings and/or proposal defense meetings as needed. Work closely with Ops team for world class proposal development
  • Develop a Key Customer visit schedule on a monthly basis

Desired Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific discipline or Health Management (preferred) with 10-12 years of progressively more responsible experience in pharmaceutical and service companies, including 8 + years of Patient Access Programs; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Ability and knowledge around Prescriber awareness and enrollment, Pharmacy and Medical benefit verification, understanding of payer policies, financial support solutions and product distribution strategies
  • Maintain a deep industry knowledge of novel and innovative tools, technologies and services that advantage a product at both launch as well as during product lifecycle
  • Solid understanding of commercialization/drug launch, the principles of drug development and legislation/policy understanding relative to drug pricing and reimbursement. Possess a clear understanding of channel areas including managed care, trade development, reimbursement and Nursing/Call Centers and Pharmacy solutions
  • Leads US market access horizon scanning and trend assessments
  • Actively serves as US market access SME/Voice for a therapeutic franchise with clients’ brand and marketing teams
  • Familiarity with Specialty and high-value therapeutics and Payer/insurance principles and mindset
  • Deep understanding of health policy issues/health economics knowledge
  • Creative in program planning and delivery for client product launches
  • Strong commitment to sales and client service
  • Knowledge of the employee benefits self-insurance marketplace and associated brokers
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and negotiation skills
  • A successful record of accomplishment of delivering on commitments and maximizing financial returns
  • Explains specifically how changes in competitors, clients and market segments will affect UBC’s stature and growth potential in the marketplace
