The Vocational Specialist will help clients in the program to find and sustain employment and/or seek out further education. The Vocational Specialist will identify local job opportunities and create a network of prospective employers. The Vocational Specialist will work individually and in group sessions with clients to deliver vocational and educational assessments and to identify realistic vocational paths, or paths toward further education. The Vocational Specialist will help clients develop resumes, improve job-searching and interviewing skills, and will provide supports to help clients sustain employment over time. The Vocational Specialist will maintain close collaboration with other care providers, the Department of Labor, local Community Colleges, Adult Education Programs and local Trade Schools or Institutes of Technology on a regular basis. They will have knowledge of financial assistance for students, and local internship opportunities.

Working within our Family & Child Services, the Vocational Specialist works with the Supportive Housing for Families staff to provide services to stabilize and reunite families experiencing complex issues such as substance use, behavioral health matters, and homelessness.

Requirements:

• Associates Degree
• 2+ years relevant experience with 1 year in a supervisory position
• Valid Connecticut Drivers License
• Regular and predictable attendance is required

Orientation:

• If selected for employment with The Connection, newly hired employees will be required to attend a two (2) day mandatory New Hire Orientation at our Roscommon office located in Middletown.
