DUTIES:
Under directive supervision, assists Transmission Linepersons and others in the field with the work involved in the construction, maintenance and repair of de-energized overhead and underground transmission lines, stations and equipment, performs such duties as:
1. Assisting Transmission Linepersons in handling rope lines and sending materials and tools up to the worker.
2. Digging, erecting and setting holes for poles and anchors.
3. Fitting cross-arm hardware, sighting cross-arms, and assisting in making up guys, stringing wires and pulling guys.
4. Rigging ropes, blocks and tackle as required.
5. Loading and unloading construction materials by manual or mechanical means (forklift, etc.).
6. Operating air compressor and auxiliary equipment used in excavating and backfilling work.
7. Using hand or power operated tools and handling material near energized cables and equipment.
8. Being responsible for the proper care of tools, materials and equipment carried on the vehicles.
9. Maintaining truck and other equipment in good operating condition by making minor repairs, applying "good house-keeping" practices and reporting any need for repairs or adjustment.
10. Utilizing the Company’s software platform and technology to maintain records and facilitate the completion of work.
11. Utilizing the Company’s mobile radio and telephone communication system to receive and transmit information pertaining to work operations.
12. Must possess tact, a suitable personality, and a clean, neat appearance for contact with the public.
13. Must successfully complete all training and testing requirements as identified for this position within six months of entering the classification. This includes meeting the requirements for promotion to Transmission Line Technician II within six months of entering the classification.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must meet the Company's requirements as to GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS; and, in addition:
1. Must have a high school education or the equivalent.
2. Must be able to be certified in first aid and CPR.
3. Must be able to drive company vehicles and possess the necessary valid driver's license and be able to obtain CDL.
4. Demonstrated ability to climb wood poles and steel structures.
