TELEWORK

This position offers an opportunity for a hybrid work schedule with a minimum 2-day work in office.


YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ’s Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do.

This position is a member of our Remediation Division.


WHAT YOU WILL DO

As a part of the division’s Remediation team, our Geoscientist IV will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:

  • Oversee Superfund Section sites for all phases of advanced geologic work, including site investigations, remediation, monitoring, and systems operations, for the TCEQ.
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage all phases of advanced work on geologic projects; provide senior level geoscience expertise to the team/section/division and agency staff; and provide assistance and recommendations to other section staff in the review and evaluation of project geologic conditions.
  • Prepare work orders, review invoices, and monitor project budgets.
  • Update databases and maintain project files.
  • Communicate with internal staff, the public, contractors, and other governmental entities. Represent the agency at technical functions, seminars, and meetings.
Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Geoscientist IV

  • Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus nine years of full-time geoscientific experience. A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.

OR

Career Ladder Progression: Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as a Geoscientist III.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in assessment and remediation of sites under Texas Risk Reduction Program (TRRP).
  • Experience managing or conducting soil and groundwater investigations (i.e., affected property assessments or remedial investigations).
  • Project management experience (i.e., responsible for scope, schedule, budget, client/customer interaction, managing contractors/subcontractors).
  • Experience preparing or evaluating geologic reports.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Geoscientist IV state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Geoscientist IV series.
