The Transportation Supervisor is directly responsible for leading a Harbor Freight Tools transportation support team and 3rd party transportation providers as well as driving compliance and cost reduction through planning efficiencies. This position will also work closely with multiple internal departments with regards to Safety, Service, Cost and Engagement strategies to drive optimization and delivery performance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise transportation team clerical staff and provide coaching and development
  • Assist transportation and planning manager in daily activities as directed
  • Manage all Import Traffic operations to include dispatch from port to DC and back to port
  • Perform container termination, reconciliation and billing process
  • Yard Management, including YMS system administration, yard audits and check-in check-out process
  • Supervise 3rd party transportation providers including performance reporting and data analysis
  • Audit and process invoices related to interwarehouse shuttles, yard services and equipment repair
  • Manage fleet equipment, fuel and supplies required to operate yard trucks
  • Maintain a high level of collaboration and communication with DC operations, Loss Prevention, transportation team, corporate partners, truckers, vendors and 3rd party transportation providers

Requirements

Education, Experience and/or Desired Skills:
  • Preferred B.A./B.S. in business, global logistics, or other related studies or equivalent experience
  • 3-5 years supervisory experience preferably in a fast paced retail distribution environment
  • Experience with TL, LTL, Intermodal and an overall understanding of the transportation industry
  • Familiarity with local, state and federal DOT regulations
  • Ability to analyze raw data to make decisions and drive utilization and productivity efficiencies
  • High business acumen, leadership, planning and organization
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, presentation and partnering skills
  • Ability to participate as a team-member as well as leader in a fast paced, team oriented environment

Physical Requirements:
  • Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds without assistance. Team lift should be used for lifting any items weighing greater than fifty (50) pounds.
  • Stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time
  • Reaching and working above the shoulder level on an intermittent basis.
  • Bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting and reaching heights on an intermittent basis.
  • Have the ability to work near or around moving parts and equipment.
  • Have the ability to work off shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
  • Have the ability to adapt to and work in seasonal temperature changes - hot / heat in summer months and cold in winter months including indoor / outdoor environments.
Safety:
  • Must be able to perform this job safely in accordance with standard operating procedures and good manufacturing practices, without endangering the health or safety of self or others.

The anticipated salary range for this position is $72,000 – $85,000 depending on location, knowledge, skills, education and experience. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer comprehensive and competitive benefits to Associates (and their families) such as medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability. Eligible Associates are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan. Associates will accrue paid time off up to 120 hours per year and paid sick time up to 80 hours per year unless otherwise required by law. The Company observes two (2) Company paid holidays. Associates earn up to 64 hours as additional Floating Holidays.
