Job Title: Welder
Job Status: Full-Time
Reports To: Shop Forman

Erection & Welding Contractors is a Structural Steel Fabricator and Erector in Berlin,
CT. We are currently looking for an experienced SMAW & GTAW WELDER to join our
AISC certified Fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 yrs experience with Steel Fabrication Welding

DESCRIPTION FOR THE WELDER POSITION

Responsibilities:

  • Read & Follow Shop Drawings / Blueprints to fabricate steel to specifications
  • Calculate material measurements & verify specifications
  • Read & Follow Shop Drawings to Erect / Install Steel to Specifications
  • AWS D1.1 Certified Preferred but not required
  • If not already certified with regular upkeep (6 months continuity), applicant will be required to pass AWS D1.1 Certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Applicant will be required to take min. OSHA 30 certification within 30 days of permanent hire.
  • At least 5 years of general welding experience.
  • Must be able to read, write & communicate in English.
  • Must be able to pass code welding test: ASME Section IX 6G pipe test (SMAW &

GTAW) and AWS D1.1 plate test for structural welds (SMAW), and flux core inner shield wire.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to produce welds that are 100% x-ray quality and visually acceptable per the construction code i.e. ASME B 31.3.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in structural welding, manufacturing, or other related fields
  • Familiarity with welding tools, symbols & procedures
  • Familiarity with engineering blueprints, shop drawings and schematics
  • Must be able to lift / carry min. 50lbs. dead weight

Physical Requirements

The work of the Welder is a highly responsible position which requires mental acuity.

The Welder will be required to move material around by dolly, pallet jack, fork lift or overhead crane. You will also speak, hear, stand, walk, balance, stoop, squat, bend, and/or kneel. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of conditions within a manufacturing environment. The company provides engineering controls, PPE and regular training to mitigate the employee’s exposure to these elements.
