JOB SUMMARY: Seeking a Simulation Operations Engineer to join the GOES-R Mission Operations Support Team (MOST) in Suitland, MD. The MOST provides engineering expertise that includes system definition requirements development, integration, testing, commissioning, and maintenance. The Simulation Operations Engineer will participate in maintaining system simulation configurations, assisting team members in executing mission simulation scenarios and report to Simulation Lead Engineer. The candidate will focus on operational aspects of validation of the supported mission. This includes launch support, pre-launch and post launch testing of ground system architecture with the main focus on the Mission Management (MM) element. As needed perform on-console support for all launch, orbit raising, and special operations activities. Work Schedule: Shift work during pre-launch rehearsals, launch & early orbit raising and on-orbit testing. Occasional off hours to support anomaly events or scheduled rehearsals. Location: This position is located in Suitland, Maryland.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

• Provide simulation support for the engineering team by setting up simulation scenarios.
• Assist instrument engineers in setup, training, and use of the instrument emulators.
• Assist Simulation Lead in developing new simulation scenarios.
• Investigate anomalies on the simulators and maintain the simulator anomalies spreadsheet.
• Maintain the master Google calendar to better distribute simulator resources.
• Attend Simulator meetings between vendor and customer stakeholders.
• Maintain the Mission Management system simulation pages.
• Create charts to better help understand simulations for diagnosing anomalies.
• Receive and maintain a folder of receipts from shipment of equipment
• Integrate new simulators into ground system.
• Develop / Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and procedures in order to establish and bring down links to the simulators and operational links.
• Assist MOST engineering team members with basic ground support.
• Assist in creating and establishing scenario setup scripts for system end-to-end tests.
• Must be prepared to routinely multitask and be able to prioritize some users over others depending on the overall need of the team.
• Desk work and some travel (under 10%).

REQUIREMENTS:

• Experience with Linux / Bash / Python / Vim Text Editor is highly desirable
• Experience in trending and analyzing satellite health and safety data, generation of commanding sequences with logical constructs (in STOL-like scripting language) is desired.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Attention to detail and self-starter.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: 0 - 1 year in spacecraft operations experience is required (co-op and intern experience will be considered).

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Aerospace or Electrical Engineering or other related fields such as Physics.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: Ability to obtain required National Agency Check (NAC) clearance.
