We are looking for an IT Manager to join our team! In this role, you will be working with our business, IT teams and vendors to deliver products using Agile/Scrum practices. This position is within our Life insurance division and primarily works with teams to manage our life policy management systems and strategy. The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering value and can drive the team forward to meet business goals.

Indiana Farm Bureau is just beginning the process to modernize our Life Policy Administration Systems (PAS). We have a mainframe application today that is supported by a team of COBOL developers. This position will be focused on developing strategies to modernize our system while continuing to support the mainframe systems until they can be retired. Life PAS systems are highly complex and conversions to modern platforms are costly and long (approximately 5 years). The manager will be responsible for developing strategies to optimize our spend, modernize our technology, and continue to move the business forward. Vendor management skills will be needed in the future as it is likely (but not definite) that we will choose a SaaS vendor solution to replace our mainframe systems. To be completely transparent, if we cannot make the business case to move to a new system due to cost, we will need to develop alternate strategies to improve our business processes and mitigate our mainframe/COBOL developer staffing risk.

In this role you will:

  • Analyze business needs to determine technology needs
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for our Life Policy Administration Systems.
  • Manage a team of COBOL developers (no Mainframe or COBOL experience is required).
  • Proactively monitor and manage delivery of projects and programs, removing barriers to delivery and ensuring quality outcomes.
  • Help assign priority levels and redirect resources toward the highest priorities.
  • Develop and monitor the annual budget for their team
  • Define team level goals and metrics to ensure Company goals are met
  • Maintains relationships with IT and business leaders to understand current and emerging business needs.
  • Prepares and delivers comprehensive communications related to program activities.
  • Ensures that talent development and staffing activities effectively meet the current and future needs of the organization.
  • Develops, coaches, and motivates others to improve performance

Do you have:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology or Business discipline or a related field
  • 3+ years of related experience leading/managing teams or project delivery
  • Excellent interpersonal effectiveness and communication skills
  • Exceptional process and analytical capabilities
  • Able to break down information in a systematic and consumable manner
  • Bias for action and work comfortably with ambiguity
  • You strive to meet aggressive goals, and know when to reset expectations
