Position Title: Small Business Consultant – Operations

Language: Bilingual: English/Spanish and/or English/Korean

Appointment Type: Part Time Consultant - (This is a part time role, up to 25hrs/week)

Salary: $50-55/hour

Summary: The Orange County / Inland Empire Small Business Development Center Network is a federal program partially funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration & the California Governor’s Office of Business & Economic Development. The SBDC is hosted by CSU, Fullerton. The purpose of this grant is to provide no-cost technical assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners in Orange County. The SBDC is seeking applications for a Small Business Consultant.

Responsibilities: Provide SBDC consulting, training and information services in the region to pre-venture, start-up, small and medium size businesses. Maintain client database by preparing detailed written assessment and make recommendations for improvements. Keep abreast of business trends, techniques, and processes. Work collaboratively with peers and the business community to expand expertise. Community outreach responsibilities will include public presentations to key stakeholders and service on appropriate boards and committees related to economic development. Travel as required to perform cross county-wide job functions. Complete all forms and maintain client files as required by the SBA. Document information, assistance, and outcomes of sessions with clients related to consulting and training activities performed by the consultant. Provide Center with timely reports related to milestones and success stories of client’s economic outcomes.

Qualifications:

The CSUF SBDC is seeking a highly qualified Small Business Consultant who specializes in operations to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent experience in business management or financial analysis. A current or past small business owner with experience owning businesses, preferably multiple locations, and managing a team of employees (5 or more) is a must. The candidate should also have a key understanding of small business issues related to efficiency in operations, extensive knowledge in operational activities, strategic goals, day-to-day running of the business, staff management, procedure efficiencies, resources allocation, customer support processes, budget analysis, policies implementation, external partners/vendors relationship management, and conformity to established regulations.

Responsibilities:

- Advise and work with small businesses on a variety of topics related to day-to-day operations, employee management, staff operations, budget analysis, pricing models, inventory control, and lease negotiations;

- Advise business owners on how to manage the day-to-day operations of their business, including the efficient running of procedures, resources allocation, and customer support processes;

- Provide guidance on strategies to improve business operations and achieve strategic goals;

- Advise business owners on how to manage their team of employees to ensure efficiency and productivity;

- Conduct business assessments and identify areas of improvement for clients;

- Analyze budgets and pricing models;

- Deliver business presentations on various topics in a public setting to diverse audiences;

- Develop programs to assist small businesses in achieving success;

- Communicate effectively in both oral and written form to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with staff, clients, business resources, and the general public;

- Use computer skills and working knowledge of various software packages to analyze and report on small business operations.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in a business-related field is preferred; or equivalent experience in business management; or equivalent experience in financial analysis; or bachelor’s degree in any field with either two years of business management or business ownership;

- Current or past small business owner is a must;

- Key understanding of small business issues related to the operations;

- Extensive knowledge in the ins and outs of day-to-day operations, employee management, staff operations, budget analysis, pricing models, inventory control, and lease negotiations;

- Experience in advising small businesses;

- Experience in delivering business presentations on a variety of topics in a public setting to diverse audience;

- Bilingual - Fluency in Spanish and/or Korean is a desired qualification of this job

- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form

- Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relations with staff, clients, government agency(s), business resources, and the general public

- Computer skills with working knowledge of various software packages are necessary
