The Department of Corrections is seeking energetic and qualified individuals for the position of Secretary Senior in the Administrative Program Manager (APM) office, at Airway Heights Corrections Center, located in Airway Heights, WA.

Airway Heights Corrections Center (AHCC) is located approximately 10 miles west of Spokane, Washington. The prison consists of a campus style facility that houses approximately 2,000 medium and long-term minimum-custody offenders. Duties

This position supports the Departments mission to improve public safety by providing upper level administrative support functions under the general direction of the Corrections Specialist - Administrative Program Manager (APM), by coordinating and facilitating timely processing of attorney visits and phone calls; following DOC policies and AHCC security practices with regards to visitors and tour groups; provides support to the APM office and to the Assistant Attorney General’s Office and Torts Division to ensure timely and accurate processing of lawsuits, tort claims, and other legal criminal matters.

Duties include but not limited to the following;

  • Set up teleconferences, telephonic hearings, virtual hearings, professional visits, Civil Commitment Evaluations, ISRB virtual violation hearings received by DOC Headquarters and Depositions received from the Attorney General’s Office (AGs), officers of the court, attorneys, Child Protective Services (CPS), Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), Division of Child Support (DCS), Labor and Industries (LNI)/(Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals), SSA/SSI Disability Benefits and Governor Ombuds with incarcerated individuals and/or DOC staff. Provide backup to facilitate virtual hearings.
  • Process Civil Rights Complaints, Habeas Corpus, Personal Restraint Petition (PRP) and Tort Lawsuits, Discovery/Request for Production, and Declarations received from the Attorney General’s Office (AGs).
  • Process Superintendent and Regional Correspondence in accordance with DOC Policy.
  • Coordinate Legal Service on incarcerated individuals, provide E-Filing services.
  • Set up tours requested by local Universities and colleges, provide backup for Legal Liaison Officer (LLO)/Administrative Program Manager (APM).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications, w hat we need :
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience in office/clerical, secretarial, bookkeeping, accounting, or general administrative work.
    Note: Formal education may substitute year-for-year for experience.
  • Strong organization skills and the ability to prioritize work.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and meet deadlines in stressful situations.
  • Computer proficient/knowledge to include, but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to accurately type 50 words per minute.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills at all levels.
  • Skilled in English grammar, punctuation, and use of vocabulary.
  • Effectively work in a team environment.
  • Professional and ethical conduct.
  • Must be willing to work in an adult, male correctional environment
  • This position requires use of good judgment and independent work style.
  • Must be able to manage complex data bases and keep data up-to-date.
  • Must be able to interact professionally with members of the public, Assistant Attorney Generals & staff, attorneys, state workers from other agencies and elected officials; i.e., legislators, judges and their staff.

Technology - Learns and utilizes computer-based applications in the performance of job duties.
