Our Senior/Principal Modeling Services Engineer will develop, update, and maintain mathematical models which are built from information from our market participants to create accurate data models for MISO’s systems that run, protect, and plan the future of the electric grid.

As a Senior/Principal Modeling Services Engineer, you will also work on groundbreaking projects, such as implementing a Model Management System, upgrading our Energy Management System, improving the Day-Ahead and Real-Time Market Systems, and incorporating Distributed Energy Resources into the MISO planning, operations, and market systems.

Lastly, as a Senior/Principal Modeling Services Engineer, you will be able to apply your vast technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to serve customers, both internal and external to MISO.

In one year, you will know you’re successful if you:

  • Have forged successful working relationships with MISO’s stakeholders to acquire transmission system and commercial model changes to keep the MISO models up to date.
  • Accurately administer the EMS network, generation, and Alarm models, the Commercial Model, and the FTR model to reflect Bulk Electric System changes in the MISO footprint.
  • Collaborate with customers to provide support on issues, enhancements, and training.

We are looking for an experienced engineer who has at least a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and six years of experience with power system modeling, transmission/distribution planning, state estimation, contingency analysis, or related experience.

While not required, it would be great if you had experience in one or more of the following:
  • Experience involving power flow and dynamics applications, power system economic analysis applications, model data management applications, Energy Management Systems (EMS) applications, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) applications, programming languages such as Python or PERL, or working in an Agile Team Framework.
  • Experience in Bulk Power Operations, Substation Construction, Substation protection, regulatory policies, control engineering, or Project Management related experience.

Appropriate engineering level will be determined based upon experience and knowledge.
