GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Pastor is divinely called to serve as the primary spiritual leader, primary leader of leaders who is committed to the upbuilding of God’s Church with unquestionable integrity, exercising a formidable faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ worth following. The Pastor instructs, inspires, and oversees collaborative strategies to meet objectives, mission, and God-given vision. The

Pastor is responsible for serving the Lord and being led by the Lord to effectively serve God’s people.

The Pastor is the Under Shepherd who is primarily responsible for spreading the Word of God, teaching, preaching, and proclaiming the Gospel, living by example. The Pastor must have the ability to offer or provide viable resources for those who are seeking spiritual guidance and counseling. The Pastor is responsible for providing administrative leadership to the ministries within the church organization, leading and understanding the roles associated with missionary work. Additionally, the Pastor works collaboratively with the Executive Leadership ministry, comprised of Deacons, Trustees, and the Executive Administrator. The Pastor is responsible for all areas of congregational care including paid and volunteer staff.

PASTORAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plan and conduct worship services, collaborating with the appropriate ministry team leaders
• Understand and demonstrate behaviors aligned with the By-Laws of the Church
• Prepare and deliver sermons and lead observances
• Effectively lead the church by example, relative to evangelism caring ministry for those in the church and the community
• Lead and support the Reach Out Ministry, visiting sick and shut-in members and prospects

PASTORAL JOB POSTING

• Conduct funerals
• Perform wedding ceremonies
• Lead the church in planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and evaluating all church programs and ministries in conjunction with the Executive Leadership Ministry.
• Cooperate with the local districts such as Antioch, Berean, etc., state conventions, and

National Baptist Convention leadership in matters of mutual interest and concerns

• Represent the church in civic matters
• Act as moderator of church business meetings (unless another leader is elected moderator,(i.e. Deacon and/or Trustee)
• Work collaboratively and in agreement with deacons, trustees, church officers, committees, auxiliaries serving to meet the agenda and strategies outlined for the Church
• Serve as administrator of paid church staff, supervising the work of the ministry staff, both volunteer and paid ministers and directors.
