Job Summary:
The position will be responsible for ensuring materials, equipment, and supplies are ordered and delivered in a timely manner. Responsibilities also include negotiating prices with vendors, placing orders, maintaining records, handling returned goods and establishing inventory programs to reduce reactionary purchases. The focus of the job entails regular interaction with other departments, such as Maintenance, Sanitation, Housekeeping, Facilities, Operations, Warehouse, etc. The goal of the MRO buyer is to reduce the cost of maintaining existing assets, therefore, negotiating with vendors for bulk discounts and finding the lowest-cost materials within quality standards is critical. Excellent communication skills, sound research skills, and a proactive/positive attitude are necessary for success in this role.
Responsibilities of the Position:
  • Preparation and issuance of purchase orders for:
    • Engineering group: New equipment
    • Electrical group: Electrical supplies, replacement parts and spares
    • Maintenance group: Replacements parts, spares, emergency parts, service calls, etc
    • Production group: Production supplies
    • Warehouse group: Warehouse supplies
    • Sanitation group: Sanitation supplies and replacement parts
    • Housekeeping group: Cleaning supplies and service calls;
    • Security group: Security/safety supplies
    • Facilities group: Facility supplies and service calls/quarterly contract PO
    • Any other CW employee that requires assistance.
  • Strategically build min/max programs on recurring items to reduce reactionary purchases.
  • Work closely with internal customers to identify areas of improvement and establish new and improved processes to place and manage orders.
  • Communicate with internal clients, foster a team atmosphere, and report on progress.
  • Lead vendor selection process by researching vendors, requesting quotes, negotiating with potential vendors, and making recommendations to the management team.
  • Expedite late and emergency orders, as needed.
    • Reduce number of urgent requests by establishing strategic programs.
  • Coordinate pick up will call items and delivery between buildings.
  • Work cross-functionally on manufacturing process reviews and new products with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Participate in both vendor meetings and internal meeting both in office and on Teams.
  • Provide support to Accounts Payable on invoice discrepancies.
  • Support receiving department at all CW locations whenever correct PO is not provided by suppliers/vendors.
  • Establish departmental guidelines and policies to support accurate entries in Syteline and ManagerPlus for proper costing, budgeting, and invoicing.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Create and maintain a safe and sanitary working environment.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Develop on-going relationships with internal clients and vendors.
  • Critical Thinking: Use problem solving skills to determine solutions to support internal clients and reduce the impact to production time.
  • Negotiation: Ability to negotiate optimum pricing, terms, and timely procurement of MRO parts, services, consumables, and supplies.
  • Reaction Time: Sense of urgency in daily tasks. Process urgent requests with determination and quick response time.
  • Attention to Detail: Manage the placement and arrival of POs to align with production and maintenance demands.
  • Competitive Spirt: Strong drive for the success of CW.
  • Adaptable: Desire to thrive in a dynamically growing environment with changing circumstances, direction, and strategy.
Education and Experience:
  • 5-7 years of experience in purchasing of MRO materials within manufacturing environment .
    • Food manufacturing preferred
Working Conditions:
  • Ability to travel 5% within North America, mainly the Midwest.
  • Eligible for hybrid work schedule of up to 2 days work from home per week.
  • Operate in an open concept office setting and warehouse environment with temperatures ranging from 55 – 80 degrees.
  • This position will require the employee to travel (10-15%) to other CW facilities for meetings and trainings. Other facilities include Bartlett, IL and Bensenville, IL.
Physical Requirements:
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds with proper lifting technique.
